living it rough? larry david and jerry seinfeld sold their rights to syndication for roughly $250 million a piece! all the characters from that show are still getting huge checks every year from syndication...not david/seinfeld money, but i'm sure they aren't living it "rough."

aside from all their seinfeld loot, larry david is still killing it with Curb and Jerry gets PAID from stand-up. Elaine has a hit tv show, George is doing theater (i think) and Kramer is a high ranking member of the Klan.

I don't get that at all.
I'm very hesitant to just casually point the racist finger at folks, but I just don't see how he can be defended here.
    How was that not racist?!

I can somewhat understand, theoretically, how there could be a discussion about the N word (though I personally wouldn't say it, no way no how).

HOWEVER, if there's people out there who don't think it's racist for a white guy to say "50 years ago you would be hanging from a tree outside" to a group of black people, I'm really depressed. These people must believe that racism can't and won't exist ever again. Some of the Youtube comments were, as usual, phenomenally ignorant.

Which is a shame because it's impossible to logically draw the conclusion that he's a racist from the incomplete and edited piece of tape that only runs two-and-a-half minutes

That guy's a dick. Even if Richards was trying to funny, he clearly was not[/b]. He's lucky he didn't get his ass kicked.

I could see some people thinking it was a failed attempt at going for a Lenny Bruce/Bill Hicks "exposing the truth about ourselves" type of bit, especially with the "they're just these words, these words...look at the ire I caused" mumbling combined with most of the crowd laughing and appluading the 50 years ago/fork up your ass line.

Whether that's a defensible position or an indictment for all the people cool with the fork line, eh.

"Sure, he says "nigger" an awful lot, but without the entire context of the show, we don't know what factors led up to Richards' tirade against the heckler."

    gtfohwtb.

The dude who wrote that collumn is a fucking closet racist himself.

I think the hecklers got what they deserved. I saw one of them in an interview and he was trying to come off so innocent like he couldn???t do any wrong. He kept going on about an apology and how much it hurt him. I'm surprised he didn???t ask for reparations.

  • Damn. I thought he was tight with this guy, too.

  • what a racist fuck.

reminded me of an somewhat unrelated story that happened to me. I accompanied my friend in London to an all-black standup night. we were the ONLY white dudes in attendance so we spent the whole night sorta cowering in the corner. we knew if dudes saw us they would take cheap shots.

luckily for us, there was a black dude in the front row with his white date! man, do I feel bad for that guy. I wonder to this day whether their relationship survived the comical beatdown they took that night.

That was awful. I would really like to see the few minutes before that led to that. I'd really just like to see him explain himself.

Actually, I'd really just like to be able to watch seinfeld again and find it funny...

This "Jails, Hospitals, and Hip Hop (2001)" video is really sick. I love that.

  • FIVE DAYS TOPS until Richards comes out as an alcoholic.

Or maybe he was molested by his black babysitter. Either way he is "very sorry for all who may have been offended" but ultimately not responsible for his words/actions. Mel Gibson say word.

Kramer: Yeah, my agent won't even take my calls.

    Kramer: No, um
    Mel: Ha Ha...good.
    Kramer: Yeah I guess
Mel: Do you believe in Jesus Christ and that he was the one true son of god and that he rose...

thats that sienfield curse. Everybody who worked on that show are living it pretty rough right now. larry crane did alright and sienfield doesn't really need to do anything, but all the supporting characters got the shaft. You know michael richards is mad bitter and salty now which probably was the root of this tirade. It must be terrible to find a job when everybody just pigeon holes you telling you to just do "kramer". pretty much career suicide after sienfield. hence major case of the salty balls.

Well, it's all relative. Dude(and George and Elaine too--and i think Larry David is doing fine) probably STILL has more yearly income from seinfeld residuals than most of us will ever see, and how many other actors throughout TV history have faced the same issue. "Living pretty rough"? I mean it's not like he's Screech or something, or that chick from Family Matters who did porn!

While it may be annoying that everyone associates you with a character, it's also flattering, a double-edged sword. But that's life, and if the worst thing that has happened to dude is that huge success and the attendant annoyances....shit, he has NO call for salty balls by any stretch of the imagination.

    weird...

Who knows what kind of shit those hecklers were talking though. I would like to hear Michael Richards explain it himself. People usually don't just self destruct like that. My guess is this was a spontaneous blending of stand-up and performance art in the most extreme sense, which is nothing new.

  • How was that not racist?!

good question, maybe you should ask some of the people laughing and enjoying dude's comments in the video.

Dude's career is really over now.....not even a Surreal Life appearance in his cards now!

i don't know about this. he could always just give a public apology and things would be back to normal for him and maybe even get more work i mean after all... he is a white man in america.

    Oh snap!

That said, talk to Jimmy the Greek. Or Al Campanis.

In any case, I totally believe the rehab theory - dude's going to come out as an alcoholic in a few days, go on "Oprah," maybe shed a few tears.
