Rooting for the teams like the Miami Heat in 2010 or the NY Yankees over the last 35 years is the same as rooting for Bill Gates to earn more money in my secret mind garden.
^^^^^^^^Hates America! Capitalism, deal with it.
I LOVE Capitalism.....I just don't view it as a sport.
Let's look at it this way......
Some dudes go out and beat the bushes, bust their asses and put in the work to "dig" for records.
And some dudes are MarcoFunk.
I know which of those two I admire more......how about you??
i feel you rich and im not wild about it, honestly...but like cos said, cliff lee quickly became a home town favorite. we were all real bummed when he incomprehensibly got traded.
for real tho, i think it would be better if sports teams had to draw from their geographic region and could only take on two strangers. that would make me more of a fan
i stopped being an eagles fan, due to andy reid, last year. but im an eagles fan again due to te billionaire owner and his wife moving to make the stadium energy neutral and funding the filming of "Inside Job" about the recent economic meltdown. theres lots of double standards in the whole situation, but im a fan again. doesnt hurt that vick is making Ws
.but in my world rooting for a team like the Giants and what they do on the field is what baseball's all about....
I don't think the Giants are above reproach in the secret mind garden. See Barry Zito or the other over the hill free agents GM Brian Sabean has showered with money over the years. The Giants are a corporate entity, that since their move to AT&T, have always been about purchasing talent rather than developing talent. They just recently hit the lotto with Cane, Posey, Wilson and Lincecum.

Capitalism, inherently, is a sport. It is a system based on winners and losers. Even the vernacular croses over eg. "major league company" vs "minor league operation."

Absolutely.....I know folks who "play" the stock market and don't really care HOW the company they're invested in goes up in value as long as they go up.
Cos......if the ace of the Phillies pitching staff was the Grand Wizard of the KKK would you still root for them as a team??
I know this is improbable and silly, but I'm just seeing how far you would take this "my team is my team" stuff.
My line was having to decide to root for a douchbag like A-Rod and I chose not to......maybe that's faux integrity but that's me.

Brett Meyers was a fucking cunt. I'm still gonna always root for my team. Plus I really doubt that the Mexican Jew that is our GM would recruit a Klansman, dude...
Bill Buckner was the best fielding First Baseman in the AL '84-'86
I don't know why you came to this conclusion, but in 1986 Buckner's legs were mostly gone and he was just not a very effective fielder. He was taken out of a lot of games late and replaced by utility player Dave Stapleton.
After the Series blew up there were endless comments about how Stapleton should have been sent in, but apparently McNamara thought Buckner deserved to be on the field when the Sox, oops, won. Buckner was a valuable player for the Sox that year as a hitter and didn't deserve the goathorns.
it still boggles the mind that the Phils aren't playing baseball right now. The Giants had all the injuries, hype, etc., so while I anticipated a post-season, I didn't see them going to the WS again. The Phils though? Man....weird season.
Comments
I wasn't talking about Lee's decision, I was talking about the Phillies offer.

Fit or foul, your team is your team.

Would you prefer your team win, like the Giants did this year, by building a team from within and picking up role players.
Or
By winning the bidding wars and "buying" two or three of the best players in baseball?
Or is winning, winning and it doesn't really matter.
I became a Rangers fan in the 80's but I rooted AGAINST them when A-Rod wore their uniform.
Call me crazy, but that's what growing up as a baseball fan in the 60's has done to me.
Except for one, the socialist Green Bay Packers
