the Donny animated thousands of people with his nonsense. and they'd still be squawking if Obama hadn't caved.

Im just not sure why we didn't keep the body for another few hours is all.

Some "caved." What ended up being "caved" was The Donny's skull.

Necrophiles hold onto bodies. I'm glad it's gone.

well I'm sure glad you're personally happy with how we handled Osama's death.

your feelings on the matter were obv my chief concern when I posted my remarks.

"Why the Death of the Man Who Was Not Behind 9/11 Was Announced on May 1st"

So who WAS behind 9/11? Banksy?

making fun of something whose subject is very dear to many of us is inappropriate. do it somewhere else.

You think I was making fun of Banksy?

    That's hilarious.

No, I know they weren't. Your chief concern was, "How will this look to the wackjobs?"

Thankfully the people making the decisions had other concerns.

I think you underestimate the power of the whackjobs. or at least the power of ideas that seem to us would only appeal to whackjobs.

So you'd vet every decision by first asking, "But what will the wackjobs think?"

Sorry, but that question is way down on my list.

I am unclear on the number of people killed and whether or not people were captured and taken into US custody. I'm sure things will become clearer in coming days. Since you all seem to have a lot of detailed knowledge I will ask now:

If people were captured do we know who they are?
    Where they are being held?
    Other details?

Also I am surprised they cleared out so fast. First thing I thought of was secret tunnels. Also vital info could have been well hid, in walls, ceilings, books... Doesn't seem like they were around long enough to do a real search.

BobD please do not respond. Others with thoughts please do.

  • Ok, I am more than relieved that Osama was found but not killed. I just don't don't believe in killing anyone but that's just me and my opinion. As a black american who was raised muslim, I definitely found osama to be the worst form of human being. This guy has made my life VERY difficult the past ten years, but I still don't wish him death. In fact, my nephew's wife died in the second tower and yet, I still do not wish him death. Unfortunately, there will be another osamas and we will have to deal with a much smarter more dangerous type of evil. Just wanted to express my piece on the close of an incredibly hard chapter in american history. ...

Apparently not even pakistan knew what the deal was. The more important question is what do you w pakistan now? Since their ISI essentially runs the country, not sure how much zardari or bhuttos husband or other ballers influence runs, what now? Dont think americans wanna keep sending our tax money to a country who clearly harbored this POS. Lets not forget pakistan has nukes as well. Clearly this should be the focus and not iraq or afghanistan, but then again common sense usually gets brushed to the side...

i had a dream last night that i was partying with saddam hussein. he was dressed up all 'weekend at bernies'-like, but very much alive. i cant tell exactly where we were, kinda got a adriatic coast in croatia vibe from the surroundings, but the location isn't as important as the fact that me and that foolio were str8 ripping it up!

then i woke up and found out bin laden got greased.

    so, there's that.

That's pretty rich coming from a "scholar" who insisted just the other day that the Nazis worshiped the Norse gods.

Thorry if I made you Thor.

I wouldn't conclude that the entire government "harbored" bin Laden. Obviously some element within it did. There will be a lot of pain and death within Pakistan as a result of this, but then there has been an ongoing conflict there for years between extremists and the moderates in the government.

Now it's out in the open - bin Laden was there for years and was being protected to some degree. I don't believe anywhere close to a majority of Pakistanis support Al Qaeda.

Every report I've seen so far says that three of his sons and one of his wives were killed; none have mentioned prisoners, and the SEALs apparently got the fuck out in a helicopter immediately afterward, so probably no one in custody.

The Pakistanis should be bending over backwards to close the book on this. They should invite the US to do the forensics with them.

The mostly peaceful Muslim uprising of the past several months has given me a lot more hope in the idea that Al Qaeda's power already was greatly diminished even before Osama took a bullet in the brain. For all of the blood spilled by Qaeda and its terrorism, they accomplished nothing when compared to the protesters in Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Tunisia. Libya, well, that's a different story...

These people are changing the world and are doing so in the right way.

Many of us, particularly in ______________where the ___________ attacks occurred, knew someone who was killed, or have friends or acquaintances whose loved ones were killed. Many more worldwide were hurt deeply by __________'s actions. He directly ordered those killings. He had ordered people killed before, and continued to do so afterward. He would continue to do so if left alive.

did they get a picture of him though? it seems odd that they wouldnt get the corpse pic like they did when they killed Che Guevara.
    quote]

I hope your not comparing Bin Laden with Che Guevara? That just aint right or reasonable. That said, the image of Che that done the rounds actually inspired a great deal of resistance (justified in my opinion) and had eerie similarities to the modern day image of "christ" on the cross...so for many ppl it became a semi-icon image.

Burying Bin Laden would create a place for the 'martyr' that would attract violent attention, and dumping him in the ocean is agood 'fuck you' to him and his supporters- at leat they didnt chop of his hands and feet and send them off as souveniers as they did with Che.

I understand why the US govt would want to bury him etc but they shold have held on to the body and got some UN/Independant veritfication to avoid the soon to come conspiracy theories....

or at least they could have taken some Abuy Ghrab style pics with the corpse...

I understand and respect the celebrations/joy/closure for US citizens atm but Bin Laden was always a 'brand name' for terroism, and a money man, while the real killers are still out an about so lets hope theres not massive retaliation. And end of the day it would have been good to see some Nuremberg style trials with Osama to silence the conspiracy heads and get some insights into the real Al Qaeda network.

Lets hope USA learns the real lessons from everything before during and after 9-11....wouldnt want the same shit to be repeated again.

As for the rest of the world .... I dont think it really matters to the majority either way....

This is good closure and this will help push Obama across the line for the next election...... but

I haven't seen any reports saying three sons were killed. Every one I've seen has said one son and two couriers and a wife.

*Though the latest report is that the woman killed was NOT his wife.

Answering murder with murder is barbaric.
