FIVE VENOMS appreciation (kung fu related)...

  • anyways............ Someone tell me what's up with the ending to Dirty Ho?

I watched it last night. Great flick, but it just ends. What happens once he gets in the meeting? Who does pop pick? What happens to 4th prince?

Is there a part two to this or what? That ending got me fiending for a part two.

    SPOILER AHEAD...

Basically the prince (Gordon Liu) was just using Wang Yu the whole time.
He conned the conman so to speak.
And at the end he simply no longer needed him, so...... to the curb!!
By that point Wang Yu really thought they were friends too.
Kinda fucked up but that's what's really up.
Re: what happens, I think it's safe to say that Gordon got the gig, while Wang Yu probably went back to being a small time con.

Liu Chia Liang was unique among kung fu directors in that a lot of his films were unconventional in their storytelling approach.
He did another flick called "Shaolin Mantis" where (spoiler again) the entire film was told from the perspective of the villain as a sympathetic hero.
So at the end of the movie when the guy dies, you really do feel bad for dude, but then you're like, hold up, he was a Ching traitor. Fuck that!

A lot of kung fu movies (but Shaw flicks in particular) do tend to have very abrupt endings.
And that can be a bit jarring for those not used to it.
But the second the story is done, boom, "THE END".
    No need for formalities.

I remember the neding being open ended, but not that Gordon was using Wang Yu. I thought the plot point of the 4th prince was of less importance because the real story was about Ho & his development from crook to student. If it seems that Ho gets dissed, it's more like on some master & subordinant ish than a betrayal. I haven't seen the celestial DVD, just the OG subbed print in the theater. Maybe different verisons convey different meanings.

  • Can anyone ID a film for me? There is a scene in Jet Li's Fong Sai Yuk I or II (I have no idea what the names of these films are in the U.S.) where he is fighting on a stage with a large crowd down below. The fight moves off the stage and Jet Li and the dude he is fighting are running all over the top of the crowd.

It's in the first one. I use to love that movie as a youngin'

I believe the North America title is The Legend

Fong Sai-Yuk - Who are you?
Mother Fong - I'm your mother.
Fong Sai-Yuk - Wow. Mom! You look just like a man!
Mother Fong - Yeah, and I just won Tiger Lu's daughter's hand in marriage.
Fong Sai-Yuk - Does Dad know?
    Mother Fong - Nooo

  • thats it. thanks!

I just watched "The Magic Blade"

    Here's some great quotables

"I PRACTICED 20 YEARS TO MOVE THE NERVE CENTERS IN BODY JUST ONE INCH SO THEN YOUR PARALYZING BLOW HAD NO EFFECT"

"You see the realm of swordplay is like a state and there can be only one ruler you or me, me.. or ...you.

    Right but still"

"How did you know i didn't die?

have you forgotten? your life is mine
no one can kill you except for me and if i didn't kill you couldn't be dead"

This film is a truly experience.

    Legendary weapons of china.

Pretty excellent. The first time I saw it I didn't know jack about Spiritual Boxing, but I've checked it out since & really enjoyed it. If you liked 8 diagram pole fighter, then you'll dig this.

I recommend Prides Deadly Fury, if you haven't seen it. It has a real strong connection to Fearless. And the fighting is excellent.

Yo Haz i'm downloading "Secret Service Of The Imperial Court" have you seen it is it any good?

  • Ahh, "Gangmaster".
I've waited over 20 years to see this flick looking this good.

Now if they'd finally put out "To Kill a Mastermind" I could die in peace.

Ok it's official "Flag Of Iron" is my favourite venoms movie i've seen so far.

I also recently acquired these bootlegs.

    Masked Avengers.
    Ten Tigers Of Kwangtung.
    Shaolin Ex Monk.
    Two Great Cavaliers.
    Five Super Fighters.

I've only watched 10 tigers and Masked Avengers do far
There's a new spot i just discovered here that sells burned copys of the boots for 200JA $'s($2.98US)
Basically it's a roadside vendor setup,i never realized that they carried the old kung fu classics i thought it just was the new hollywood bootlegs that they sold.
I'll be supporting these youts entrepreneurial ventures.

    i was still impresssed.

Just finished the director's cut of "Fearless". If you liked the movie, you HAVE to see the director's cut. Its a totally different film. Excellent.

I'm resurrecting this thread its been dormant for too long.

I'm recommending "The South Shaolin Master" the action in it was intense and realistic.
Also i watched two other stellar films "The lady Assassin" the action in this can only be described as hyperkinetic i've never seen anything close to this before.
And "The Kung-Fu Instructor" was a really good film i prefer the pole fighting in this more that "8 Diagram Pole Fighters"

A small question to Paul Nice or anyone that can answer it.
Which venom's film is it that Lu Feng gets his back broken? i've seen the clip in a
Tribute vid for him on youtube.
