Lakers v Celtics: Lakers in 6 ....The Celtics can't beat L.A w/o Posey and House.

I said that "Boston isn't the same without James Posey".

I think Rajon Rondo's growth combined with Big Baby and Tony Allen's contributions off the bench have covered for their losses.

Orlando is done. Howard doesn't have the intensity for 48 minutes. How is the star center sharing laughs with the opponents with 3 minutes remaining in the game? Dude wasn't even asking for the ball in several of the plays down the stretch. HOW THE FUCK DOES THAT HAPPEN? Weak. Orlando = done.

Paul Pierce, KG, Ray Allen = competitors

So the Bullets get the first pick (John Wall), second to Philly, and third to the Nets....

Wall looked like he was gonna cry when he was talking about going to the useless Wizards.

I too felt sorry for John Wall as soon as I heard that news. lol

Lebron owning shares in his own team is like Steve Jobs returning to the helm of Apple, or like one of LBJ's idols a man by the name of Warren Buffett (you might have heard of this guy ) who bought Berkshire Hathaway which was a failing mill company at the time and turning it into his own holding company...

It's a wrap, D'antoni will get to coach Lebron. Hopefully they can get the pieces he needs

No - not allowed. Buying shares means owning part of the team (this would cause a serious conflict of interest in labor talks). They can only invest in third-party companies that own a team. For instance, if Coca-Cola owned the Knicks, LBJ could own shares in Coca-Cola. Try again Forbes mag......

That is, essentially, what the piece says:

They cannot pay James with MSG stock because it would violate the league's collective bargaining agreement. But there is nothing to stop James from buying shares of MSG with his money. This would allow James to in essence work for himself and capture the upside in revenue from higher ratings on the MSG RSN, a soon-to-be renovated Madison Square Garden and much higher profits he will bring to these platforms.

I'm just breakin it down for the thousands of "little dude" lurkers we have in this thread. You should be happy the Knicks will be an offensive juggernaut with D'antoni and LBJ...maybe Mike D will somehow get Mr. Longoria or an aged Nash to round it out.

I didn't see him acting like a bitch when he got walloped by Howard.
The little "I'm-a-get-him" move when he got up was laughable, but
it was the Magic who were crying to the refs all. night. long.

anyway, I don't give a shiiiiiiiiit, cause it's 2-0 C's and coming back to Boston.

Of course you wouldn't see it that way, it's your team. Anyway, it's neither here nor there at this point. Good win for Boston. And this dude Rondo is the future of the franchise. Talk about a quick evolution. I guess it doesn't hurt to be running along side 2 hall of famers and Paul Pierce. But seriously, over the past 2 years, Rondo has really grown into his role.

And leave it to a Dukie to blow the last chance in the game last night. You call the time out before you put the ball on the floor. Rookie moves. And dudes been in the league for 3 years now.

Also, too many damn fouls, yet again, both ways. I lol'ed when that fan got into it with what's his nuts. The refs are a fuckin' joke in the NBA.

I am going to hold out my hand but I don't think it'll be enough to stop you from falling down the slippery slop. Some Forbes blogger writes a two-paragraph post declaring LeBron "will" sign with the Knicks because he "could" buy shares of MSG with his own money? That's just silly. I'm not an equities analyst and have no idea how the signing of the most marquee free agent would impact the shares of a cable company. But still, WTF? LeBron "could" also buy shares of Berkshire and then sign with the Thunder because it's the closest team to its Omaha HQ.

  • mylatencymylatency 10,475 Posts
Well WB doesn't own the Thunder..this is kinda different. It's not just the city or vicinity...It's a direct motivating factor for LBJ to own publicly traded shares in basically the company/ownership that he plays for.

I just think this opportunity for Lebron will be a very financially beneficial motivating factor than LBJ going to Chicago or the Nets.

Yup using that logic Lebron could also buy stock in Quicken Loans since the Cavs owner Dan Gilbert owns Quicken loans also Dan Gilbert holds the sole rights to all the new Casinos being built in Ohio so I guess LBJ could do something in the gaming field also (yeah right). Funny thing about that Forbes blog is that the author pretty much admits he was "reaching" if you read the comments after the story.

I mean, I get it but I think it's a stretch. You, in this little line here, explained it more convincingly than the Forbes blogger. But I still don't see NBA players playing harder or going to a team for stock options. Shit, with the volatility in the market and the continued fallout from this little bit of a financial squeeze we've had in the past three years, I bet even CEOs who run companies see stock options as less attractive than good old fashioned base pay.

Sure, signing LeBron would probably give a bounce to MSG shares but is that going to be something that provides a lift for the shareholders over a whole NBA season, much less the duration of a five-year contract?
