The Art of Storytellin' Part 4 - Outkast and Marsha Ambrosius

A friend of mine who had turned his back on rap music for most of this century challenged me to put together a compilation of recentish rap he may like. After ticking off all the major releases I liked I started going through the albums that haven't received much play since I first listened to them and came across this again. Still love it.

Sideshow feat. Paul St Hilaire - If Alone

4 mixes and I can't decide which one I like the most. Some bloke called Chateau Flight does two of them, and dubstepper Appleblim teams up with somebody called Komonazmuk for a decent effort too. The og mix is sort of reggae house.

"Vidala Triste" by Gato Barbieri (from the "Bolivia" LP).

I can only take Gato's raspy ??ber-muscular sax playing in small doses, so I don't listen to him that often.
Been revisiting some of his albums these last days (purge related). I didn't really take much note of this song before, but now I can't stop playing it over and over. Lovely folky tune and for once Gato puts down the sax and plays some mellow flute (and sings).

More than one, but...Johnny "Guitar" Watson's "Superman Lover" and various songs off the Cannonball Adderley Quintet's Accent On Africa. I like the field plowing song ("Ndolima") the most

Stephanie Mills - "Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin'"

As you guys know, what they call "modern soul" is not really my thing, but this is a glorious exception...

I am familiar with this song from when I was a kid and it was a hit, but I hadn't heard it for a long time until last year, while me and a friend of mine were driving through Memphis and this song came on one of the local black stations...it sounded a lot better than I remembered! When it starts out, it doesn't seem like it's going to really go anywhere, just your typical post-disco soul tune, but then the chorus kicks in and the tune just takes off...it's like they released the tension right there and then.
