Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel, AKA the piano man. It's very moving, the combination of dark Nam lyrics and the cinematic dirge quality of the song, then he breaks out--"they were sharp, as sharp as knives-knives-knives" in the style of Ozzyy Osbourne on Crazy Train. It's a nice moment.b,121b,121Also Nas "Half Time." I love that line, "ill as a convict who kills for phone time."
hey Luck, if youre reading this...what are they singing about? the title seems intriguing. (and it's a two-parter, at that!) im assuming its a funk 45 (although correct me if I'm wrong). never heard of this one.
The instrumental side of some King Tim twelve-inch, the name of which I can't remember right now. Something about "roller boogie," I think. Or maybe something about "booty." But, yeah--the instrumental. (On a slightly fetishistic note: Something about disco twelves where the label, the sleeve, and the inner sleeve all coordinate just makes my heart beat. That's that ascot-to-match-the-socks shit.)
Johnny Rivers - "Positively 4th Street"" Of all the versions of my recorded songs, the Johnny Rivers one was my favorite. When I heard him sing my song, it was obvious that life had the same external grip on him as it did on me." ---Bob Dylan

his song melts my heart into a puddle of awe and I start it over and over again. It also makes me leave it on friends' voice mail.
