The battle Lebron and Kobe are having now

Dude, what battle is that exactly? The one the NBA and Nike and Vitamin Water have hyped beyond control?

I like the puppet ads as much as the next guy but if Lebron can't even make the finals, that whole conversation is a non-starter.

Kobe's puppet is in the ballpark, but Lebron's isn't even close.

I honestly think it's absurd to involve Kobe Bryant in any Shaq or Lebron conversations....

The battle Lebron and Kobe are having now is much more exciting than the two actually playing for it all....Lebron isn't playing the Magic tonight,he's playing Kobe.

when i say "conversations" i'm talking about the discussions of who's better....

nothing has ever been expected of Shaq

    Are u serious? Nothing?

Shaq has never been blamed for any of his teams failures and he's been on several underacheiving teams....Kobe is on another overacheiving team and he is expected to win a championship

  • edpowersedpowers 4,437 Posts
That said, if the Lakers win this year, of course people would expect them to repeat!

it's a silly expectation...If the Lakers win this year they would be the least talented team to win a championship since the 81 Celtics.

    True dat.

But nobody in their right mind was seein K.O.B.E and the Lakers win the whole thing since '04/Detroit. The Gasol trade put them over the top.

So how did the Lakers get the second best record in the NBA with such a poorly staffed team? Are you suggesting that if they win this year...it's a fluke?

I think totally the opposite, actually.

    Are u serious? Nothing?

So he just slipped into the league w/out ANY EXPECTATIONS?

Did the media not ride his jock in Orlando when he "went to the finals"?

Was Blue Chips an illusion? Top 50 of all-time?

Did the media not pay attention when he jumped ship to L.A.?

Did Pat Riley not come out of retirement because of Shaq? He sure didnt do it when Wade was solo.

Wasnt the Phoenix/Kerr gamble a big deal?

    No Expectations?

U cant be that much of Shaq hattur?

Those are mainly accomplishments. Shaq's expectations are significantly lower than Kobe's mainly cuz of their difference in personality. Guards are also the focus of more attention than centers.

    It's the Lil Penny remix.

I enjoyed the first one where Lebron is throwing chalk all over the place and yelling "Playoffs baby! Playoffs!! Ohio baby! Akron Ohio!"

Oh and with regards to BEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME debates, aside from the specialists, rarely do people bring up Bill Russell (11 rings) or Tim Duncan (4) as the best. As ridiculous as it sounds, a third of MJ's legacy is built upon Nike Air Jordans, Gatorade, Space Jam, and the like. You see kid's who barely saw Mike in his prime talking about he's the greatest of all time, and you begin to understand that the debate is based mainly on image. Science.

    Kobe is a giant.

    Lebron is a beast.

    Michael was a superstar.

    Michael's "legacy" is untouchable.

I'm talking about the public's expectations. No one REALLy talks about them as a failure or buys their sneakers on such a large scale, as they do with Lebron, Kobe, even Ray Allen, Stephon Marbury.

MJ was on his comeback trail and the team was trying to get their swagger back.

    45 MJ =

    but Shaq beat him.

Dude, that shit doesn't count. NOT MJ'S PRIME.

Not a fluke... but not much seperates the Lakers and the Magic...i'd bet if the Magic win it all this year the Lakers would still be favored to win it all next season....for whatever reason people expect Kobe to do more than other star players..past and present....i don't get it

  • edpowersedpowers 4,437 Posts
actually i do get it....but that's a whole different discussion

    I don't get this DIE/LeBoring shit.

Magic are the better team; not nearly as likable, but better, it seems. Yeah! Aren't we lucky! Two extra weeks of Stan Van, and the Blue team getting housed by the Yellow team. We're the BIG WINNERS!

I don't buy this at all. Are there heavy expectations on him? Yeah. More so than any player in NBA history? No.

BTW, I'm wiling to believe that Lebron is the better player than Kobe but that doesn't mean Kobe's overhyped. And looks like he's going to the Finals, not James.

Magic = while the Cavs seemed to lack the heart to really rally.
