b,121O....I hear you....I just think that quite a few political posters here are "straight up assholes" who get a free pass because they are on "the correct" side.

font class="post"1b,121b,121You're probably right but I think Dolo goes above and beyond. I challenge you to find anyone from the "correct" side who is as consistently mean-spirited.
b,121R: There's two separate things at stake here:
b,121
b,1211) What level of political dissent is embraced on the site. If you think, "not much," I'd agree. This is an overwhelmingly left-leaning site and accordingly, those with opposing philosophies come into a space that is already ideologically hostile (
but not necessarily hostile by temperment).b,121b,1212) Should Dolo be tolerated? And as I suggested, he inspires so much strong reactions LESS for his views and more for his attitude. He does not represent the spirit of dissent on the site. He represents Dolo. And Dolo's a dick. b,121b,121h,121
font class="post"1b,121b,121When one side is posting stuff like videos of Palin's daughter's supposed baby's daddy, suggesting bodily harm to republican candidates and expousing extreme hate for a party and their ideals, isn't the equal but opposite response from someone on the other side expected? b,121b,121And if one is tolerated shouldn't the other??

font class="post"1b,121b,121R: You know as well as I do that Dolo was acting the jerk long before this current election cycle. b,121b,121I respect your libertarian views for tolerance but your attempt to suggest that Dolo's presence is equivalent to that of any other posters doesn't fly. His track record speaks for itself in ways that no one else's (except for Saba's) can.
font class="post"1b,121b,121Well, it is true that V's generally not as condescending as Harvey so that might help explain it. Though Eli's last visit to the Strut was rather "mad doggie".
p.s.b,121b,121Rock, you seem like a cool fellow, and I honestly don't even know what a libertarian is, and really don't care. b,121b,121Vitamin is corny, if only for his "channeling of native americans".b,121b,121And dolo is a straight-up dumbass.b,121b,121I thought Saba was funny sometimes, but then he would cross the "decency" line and get his dumb ass banned.b,121b,121b,121really though dolo is a waste.
b,121B....no offense intended.....whenever the masses here don't like someone the first dart they throw is "You don't even post about music/beats/braeks"..... I've learned that it is a false objection that really means "I don't like you being here".

b,121I realized yesterday that this is the first-ever campaign since the dawn of YouTube, right? It's had quite an effect.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Absolutely. Youtube wasn't around for 2004 though I'm sure there was some form of viral video at the time but nowhere like it is today. b,121b,121For real, think on this a moment: Youtube has been around only since 2005.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Indeed. We are over saturated with information and I don't think it's necessarily a good thing. b,121b,121Imagine what it must be like to know every little slip up will be recorded and broadcast around the world within minutes! Shit is crazy.

font class="post"1b,121b,121I don't think that's such a bad thing, if it encourages politicians to think a little harder about what it is they say and when/where they say it.

font class="post"1b,121b,121I disagree insofar as it's a real double-edged sword when you start trying to play the "gotcha" game. It's one thing to point out when people are straight up contradicting themselves, especially on policy positions. It's another thing when people misspeak - that happens to all of us and it's unrealistic - not to mention pointless - to want people to be 100% rhetorically perfect. b,121b,121At the end of the day, I care less about what my leaders say vs. what they do.
b,121Dolo is our resident troll and it's amazing, to me anyhow, how many people engage him and then turn around and complain about what a negative presence he is. If people uniformly ignored Dolo, at worst, he'd just be the crazy guy, mumbling in the corner. At best, he'd realize he's not getting the attention he craves and then bounce.

font class="post"1b,121b,121You don't think this leads to more self-censoring and sloganeering? YouTube is one of the greatest creations of the Internet age, but when it comes to our politicians thinking "a little harder about what it is they say and when/where they say it," I think it has had the unintended effect kicking soundbite-driven politics into hypergear.b,121b,121Look at last night's debate compared with ones in years past. It was pretty tepid overall and neither candidate diverged from their script.

YouTube has allowed political campaign's to advertise on the cheap. They pay for a political ad. Post it on YouTube, tell the media about it, and basically never have to actually run it in media markets. If it's somethig juicy, the TV news will show the video over and over (free advertising!) while the print and radio media will break it down.
