Nash leaves, they use his money to get a somewhat credible center and they win 58 games (and yes, lose to Nash and an unstoppable force of nature named Amare). Mavs won 60 this year w/out Nash.
Nash has really elevated his game since he left Dallas, and props to him for that. he's in a "perfect storm" situation in PHX. They out-NellieBall the old Mavs and they're fun to watch. Dood doesn't play one iota of D though and that's okay cos his coach D'Antoni gives a fuck about D. System player. If you're gonna give it to a PG this year, then Billups is the play.
Dirk has answered almost every criticism of his game this year, and finishes third, same as last year. That's fucking lame.

I personally think that TD is a great player; I actually went to the Draft in Charlotte the year he was the #1 pick.
I'm not surprised nor shocked if Nash gets it. He was my MVP for most of the year.
To me the award was either going to go to Nash or Kobe.
Kobe had an unbelievable year capped by his 81 point effort. He's proving to be the closest thing to Jordan hands down. And this is from someone who really doesn't like Kobe.
That being said, Nash is the most important player on his team. Their BEST player, Stoudamire missed basically the whole season, they had at least 4 brand new players playing major minutes and they still ended up winning their conference and gettting into the playoffs. That's all because of Nash. He's the one that integrates all of these pieces and gets that team going. You cannot overlook the role of a point guard in the success of their team.
Of course this is all opinions.......... but I gotta really push Dirk because he doesn't get the props he deserves.
Partly I blame Sir Charles Barkley because he has turned the Mavs/Mark Cuban/Dirk into his own personal comedy routine.....but I don't even think Charles believes his Anti-Mavs rap anymore.
Dirk lost the now two-time MVP AND his team's third best player Michael Finley and STILL won 60 games. 60 wins, often with guys like DeSagana Jiop, Marquis Daniels and Adrian Griffin in the starting line-up.
The guy hustles his ass off, is tougher than most realize(remember the playoff game 2 years ago when he got two teeth knocked out and came back to light it up??) and has one of the sweetest jump shots in the league....and he's a 7 Footer!!!
He is MONEY on the line(90%+), averaged nearly 10 rebounds a game starting next to a Center that is there to do nothing but rebound, and has gone from a "Matador" on defense to a genuine shot blocker(2 a game)
They used to say he was soft....he ain't soft no more. They used to say he didn't play "D"....he's now a defensive FIEND when the games on the line.
and the following is CHECKMATE...
We all agree that Amare is a BEAST.......probably the future of the NBA if he gets healthy......well take Nash away from Phoenix and they win 40 games at best. Dirk IMPROVED his record without Nash....
i watched the game tonight (not too closely) and that's all i could think about. they have no chance, and they must have known that coming into the series. it's just going through the motions (of losing) for them.

I can't really argue with the choice of Nash for MVP....
but there are 3-4 other players this year that could have won and been deserving....Dirk is one.....I get to see him every night and he's not a guy to score 45 and then 15 for an average of 30....he'll get a consistent 25-30 a night, every night....I place high value on that.

oh come on. he was really, really good in utah. that's why phx signed him for the full midlevel exception on the first day of free agency in the offseason. he was given a $30-some odd million contract for a reason - it's not as if he came out of obscurity this season. diaw wasn't considered a bust at all, he just wasn't used properly. they were literally playing h im as a slowish 6'9" combo guard, so it wasn't until phoenix moved him to the frontcourt that he started to flourish. he didn't get nearly enough playing time in atl and i guarantee you phx knew they were getting a player in that trade. the suns did overachieve, but i think that's because the expectations coming into the season were so low w/ amare out. they were better than everyone expected them to be from the get go.
Lakers got lucky tonight Yuichi, along with a couple of the calls. Gotta give it to the Lakers hustle and Kobe stepping it up a bit. We'll see how they do on Friday though.
