if you like the geto boys you should like lil wayne

Say... I wonder if the geto boys like lil wayne?

It could be that I don't really care for the name "wayne" itself. I had an uncle named wayne, but he's dead from a motorcycle accident. Just something about the name wayne. I knew a kid named "bucky" once. now thats fucking tragic, but thats what happens when you grow up in bakersfield. when I was in 4th grade I had an indian friend named Kimal Wikeramashimah (I don't remember how to spell that one). I thought that name was sweet. And its like, I didn't really know shit about india or whatever, he just said his name was like that because he was Indian, so I was like, well, ok, that explains that i guess. But I loved that name because it was so fun to say. That kid was cool. I wonder what ever happened to him. I also knew a kid in the 4th grade named Brock, which at the time didn't seem to bad to me, but looking back... what the fuck.

Also there was this british kid at school named Oliver. And the way he talked with his little british name; I though "yes, his name should be oliver". It made sense. Like little british kids SHOULD be named oliver. And I don't think I've ever known any american people named oliver in my life, except for Wang.

I'm kinda glad my name isn't Herbert, or Herb. But then again it would be a kinda fun name to have, and definitely better than Chester. Or Wayne.

Okay, well, clearly you have nothing to say. So you may consider yourself

You are excused. But learn to shut your mouth when big people are talking. lol.

I know it's tough getting people to post sometimes. My "FILIPINO cookingstrut thread" was a slow one.

Dope Album. Kanye Killed it this year. I have read that street dudes dont like this album, and that its not real hip hop and whatever. Its a great record. Really. If you dont like it now, you probably will in 5 years time.

I'm finally starting to like this dude (ayo).

As far as rapping, he doesn't ride the rhythm the best like Jay-z for example.
As far as his beats, it's often-times a sorta "scrappy" production style.
but nonetheless, his tracks are really starting to grow on me.

No love for Webbie? "Gimmie That" was great.

Webbie's album is pretty good, but I cannot conscionably list it as being among the "best of" anything.

It did, however, include one of my favorite lines of the year in the track "Like That" where Webbie describes what attributes of various female celebrities his ideal woman would possess. In introducing the subject of Halle Berry he drawls hesitantly "Y'ever seen that movie Monster's Bawl?" like he's not sure whether admitting to being down with something so artsy-fartsy is a good look or not.

Like a big booty assss Black Di-vaah... That line would, of course, exclude Haile Barry.

Not many. But haven't gone out of my way to listen to much.

Edan - Beauty & the Beat. Best 'album' in a long time.
Gorrilaz - Demon Days might as well count as a hip hop LP. Has De La and dude from Pharcyde on it, probably got less MTV play than pop music by Ying Yang Twins, 50 Cent etc etc etc etc etc etc etc, so why not.
Some nice mixtapes I heard downloaded. Mixtapes way fwd - ignore copyright, ignore MTV playlist suitability. Maintain artistic integr'ty. Probably lots of good hip hop come out on CDR this year.. any suggestions for dl?

Wow... really stuck on the whole 'integrity' thing yet somehow Gorillaz is pure rap in your book while Ying Yang and 50 are pop?? Thats fucked, dude.

MTV shows plenty love to Gorillaz, best believe... and thats the one record that somebody was buying almost everytime I was at the record store this year (and don't think for a second the 40-somethings who love that record would touch an actual rap album)... I doubt Ying Yang is even coming close to their sales

I had a promo of that Count Bass D for maybe a week, but after two listens realized it was really just a poor man's MF Doom record and dumped it (yes I realize he's been around for a while... but comparing the old stuff to new it does sound like he's riding Doom's D these days...)

Speaking of, MM FOOD was great but I think that's a 2004 release...

Roots Manuva and Ohmega Watts were painfully bad too, a lot of this stuff needs to be moved to the LITTLE BROTHER FANS thread
