The acting was p-h-e-n-o-m-e-n-a-l. Great pacing and didn't seem tired despite the oft-told storyline of bad boy redemption and all the archetypes. Worth watching.
I saw this a good time ago and I liked it too. The first time I saw it I thought it was just an African equivalent of City Of God, though.
That didn't come to mind at all. Can't say I would agree even now. There is a completely different mood to City of God than in this film. I think Tsotsi stands on its own.
That's just the impression I had when I first watched it, because when I had heard about it from a few friends they mentioned City Of God alongside it. So with my first viewing I went in with that mentality. But after second viewing I took that element out of the viewing and enjoyed it even more. Miriam was probably my favorite character in the entire film.
Finally got round to watching this film. Has been on my to see list since the days when I was just a kid and the Saturday papers used to have a VHS purchase over the phone pull out in them. Used to scan the films choosing which ones I'd love to see and, without knowing anything about it, the cover of the Baldies sold me on it as some kind of post apocalyptic movie.
Obviously turns out that my idea wasn't entirely accurate but still enjoyed it even if it does fall apart in the last third. Can certainly see why it's a cult movie though, an insane list of cultish actors in there.

Great coming of age-flick, feels like Warriors meets Diner or something.
Yeah really enjoyed it and actually think its tendency to swing wildly from comedy to gritty darkness to plain all out weird really helped keep my interest over the course of the film.

Absolutely love that film and that's a great poster in its own right but have to say I'd be pretty pissed if I went to see the movie on the strength of it. Gritty angry Clint + guns is not really what the film's about. Almost comparable to that Long Goodbye one someone posted a while back.
The monster design made them silly looking but the carnage they left behind was great to behold.
I could see this leaving an impact on me if i had seen back in the day.
A decent flick the action is constant no dull spots.
Wow the Wanderers. There's a blast from the past. I haven't seen that in a long time. Jspr I'm going to check out Deliverance. I can't recall ever seeing it.

I just caught this gem from 1979....George C. Scott in HARDCORE. The story of a man whose search for his missing daughter leads him down into the bowels of the porn underworld. Pretty heavy schitt for it's time. Found it on Netflix of all places.
I caught this in HD last night on IFC. Wow what a great movie. I haven't watched it in years and years and really didn't remember much about it. After watching Deer Hunter and some other stuff the last year or so i really see how great De Niro was in the 70's.

The Last Detail was mentioned earlier in the thread and I saw that recently. This one is yet another example how Jack's best moments, out of all the movies he stars in, involves him verbally tearing apart an employee of a certain establishment (in this case, a bartender..."NOW, MOTHERFUCKER!"). I'm watching Mirage, also mentioned previously, right now. Before that, Castle Keep, which I decided to revisit after watching The Last Detail where Nicholson is making a drunken speech in his underwear in front of the TV, which is showing that movie.
Finally saw Casablanca...screening in a 20s-era theater, great place to see it for the first time. Loved it. A lot funnier than I thought it would be...

This a craz whodunit murder mystery by Sidney Lumet from 1982. I had never heard of this but saw it going through IMDB somehow. It's very good. A fun watch for a Sunday.

More a straight comedy than a musical but would highly recommend Teacher's Pet with her and Clark Gable. Also has one of the great supporting performances by Gig Young.
i checked out the last hour of "with six you get egg roll" on tv the other day. pretty much a Dramedy version of the brady bunch. doris day was, once again, killin it

So hardcore. I've heard comparisons to The Wire, but I'd add a dash of Zodiac in there with a hint of Twin Peaks.

Melodrama cranked up to eleven and radio roots pretty obvious but nothing prepared me for quite how brutal the story is. Great stuff.
