Jury Duty is like voting...if you don't participate in the process, don't bitch about the system.

Skipping jury duty is just weaksauce. But in behemoth's case, he shouldn't be on the hook for jury duty in a county he no longer lives in.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Sorry, I disagree. For every person who ducks out of jury duty, there are hundreds just waiting to be tapped for the 'privilege'. Jury duty is disruptive to people who work, go to school, volunteer, and dig for records all on the same day.b,121b,121Leave jury duty to the people who really want it. There are many.

While I respect those who do show up for jury duty, I've never been comfortable going myself. You can call me a kid all you want, but I really, really don't feel comfortable with our current system. I don't want to decide the fate of someone who I don't know, and the only thing I know about him or her is based on the word of lawyers who I don't know and are getting paid to say anything that wins the case. I especially don't trust many other citizens to be able to handle that sort of responsibility. b,121b,121/font1

I'm just sayin' my time is better spent supporting programs and services that lack the resources they need to function at an ideal capacity. Cancer is a big problem. Hospitals are over-crowded. Commercial radio is shit. I care about these issues.b,121b,121What I don't care about is spending my time making a judgement call on someone I've never met. You will always hear people say 'we need volunteers' for so and so. You will never hear 'the municipality is desperately short of volunteer jurors'. THAT'S what I'm getting at. Volunteering is a civic duty--but no one seems to think so because it is optional, not compulsory by law. So, again, with all due respect, FUSK jury duty.

Yes, and I don't want that responsibility. I want to help people on a broader scale. I don't want to determine the fate of a few people when I think my time is better served assisting charitable organizations that aid thousands, if not millions.

The only reason I left before 5 was because I made up something to get out of it ( I knew they weren't gonna try a case in one hour/b1) . b,121b,121Sure it sucked, but I did my part. Apathy and complacency will be our downfall. b,121b,121h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121You're still a kid, son. b,121b,121h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121Yeah man, you got me pegged. I drove 60 miles, spent 8 hours in a room waiting to go to trial, had to arrange for someone to pick up my kids and missed an entire day of work so I could do what you won't. b,121b,121I guess you should be thankful for "kids" like me. b,121b,121h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121Dude, please. b,121b,121I work for a cancer organization, I volunteer at a local hospital (feeding old people pureed food) and college radio station (sorting records and answering phones). I donate about 20% of my meager annual income to various charities. I'm working on an MBA to be applied in the non-profit sector. I even sponsor an African child (yeah, I know: who doesn't?) and donate to ANYONE who knocks on my door with a worthy cause.b,121b,121Do you know that volunteers are in constantly short supply? It's a real problem where I work. Potential jurors, on the other hand, are everywhere just waiting.b,121b,121I choose to make a difference in ways that I feel are more meaningful.b,121So FUSK jury duty. b,121b,121h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121This isn't a contest dude. And while what you do is admirable, it still has no bearing on civic duty. I'm not out there trying to make a difference by going to fusking jury duty. b,121b,121h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121No, Day, it's not a contest. That's not what I'm getting at. So, again, with all due respect, FUSK jury duty. b,121b,121h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121Hahah...b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/waaambulance.gif" alt="" 21

I only want to get my point across, and I think I did that a long time ago. I know it's more of a 'fraternal' response elicited from good 'ol chums who respect each other on matters of music when Cosmo and O-dub write after each other on this particular thread (and probably most other threads), essentially parroting one another, and not an actual case of mental retardation. For the record, I respect you both, no matter how stupid you are in this thread, or others.b,121b,121Please feel free to have the last word.
