Classic rap albums are far and between these days...

Young Jeezy Thug Motivation is a classic, and maybe T.I.'s Trap Muzik. Stankonia. Trae's album was OK, but not even close to classic IMO.

(I will keep my indie backpack favorites to myself for now. )

  • If the definition of classic is something you will still listen to in 20 years a lot of peoples picks are far from classic.

I was going to start by saying there's a lot of incredibly bad looks in this thread but I also think that it reflects how divided hip-hop's various sub-genres have become since the mid-90s.

That said, a lot of people's definition of "classics" is real .

I didn't realize that "half-way competent" is now the new standard for "classic."

This is depressing me, I'm really struggling to think of many bonafide classics since 98. Not to say that there haven't been many decent albums in that period but classic? Albums that reach legendary status?

    So far I've got:

    Outkast - Aquemini
    Cam'Ron - Purple Haze
    Ghostface - Supreme Clientele
    Dr Dre - 2001
    MF Doom - Operation Doomsday
    Jay Z - Blueprint

Tempted by both TI- Trap Musik and Freeway - Philadelphia Freeway but again, are they decent albums or absolute classics?

Christ there has to be more than that.
