both parties refused to compromise on their pet issues. democrats have more think of the children pork to make themselves look better and republicans are loud assholes about not backing down. simple as that.

Even from here, I could only see one party publicly declaring - repeatedly - that their "number one priority" would be to obstruct the president to such an extent that the country would almost become ungovernable. Really mature way to tackle the biggest economic crisis your country's faced in almost 100 years.

This is very heartwarming, especially knowing that all of these countries LOVE the U.S. and only want whats best for us and our future success!

I think it has more to do with the fact that most, if not all, of them recognise that who governs America has an enormous impact upon the rest of the world, and some also recognise that, for all Obama's shortcomings, a Romney presidency would have been demonstrably worse for all but a very small handful of extremely wealthy people.

  • Hah! The GOP and it's institutional bigotry, shameless misogyny, inbred phobia of science, religious proselytizing, trickle-down hucksterism, fear mongering, and unfiltered hatred can suck it.

What the fuck is up with all these republicans saying they will be moving out of the country? Where are you fucks gonna move to, exactly? I mean, go for it, but it makes zero sense.

But let???s just run through the options here (data derived from twitter feeds):

Canada? They???re EVEN MORE ???socialist??? than us!

Australia? It has compulsory voting, no guns, evolution is taught in all schools, and the female Prime Minister is an unmarried atheist.

Naw, COSTA RICA. Have fun, Frank!

They're not going anywhere...just like all the Libs that threatened the same thing before Bush won his second term.

The point is that there are plenty of classy options for liberals. But, where the hell are Repubs gonna run and hide that fit their worldviews better? Serious question.

This doesn't make sense to me. A liberal on a power trip can easily slide into full blown communism, no? Far from "classy". And a Republican without all of the Bible-thumping can easily become a Libertarian, which IMO we need as much as anybody nowadays in the face of an overblown government/war-machine/deficit. Besides all that, there should be some middle ground between the 2 camps instead of the assumption that so-called polar opposites can never do anything but hate each other into collective gridlock.

My argument is not meant to focus on extremes as you mention above (though your point is taken). Take a look at many core issues for liberals: Universal healthcare, public services & safety nets, progressive social issues, blah blah blah. There's plenty of countries (in Europe alone) that a liberal would feel quite comfortable living in. Contrast that with core conservative issues. What country out there best represents them? I think they would surprise themselves to take a deep look at that question!

That's actually a different issue than the one I raise.

Republicans, I imagine, would be quite happy moving to 1957 Peoria, Iowa.

And, the outcome on Tuesday spoke volumes about the GOP, for all the above reasons. Why you just blithely ignore that in the comment above is baffling.

Look, our country will be better if the GOP wants to actually govern. But, they have no interest right now outside of lowering the top marginal tax rate, and that hurts us all.

The point is that neither are going anywhere regardless of how attractive they think their options are.

I'm just saying that type of generalizing is dumb and lazy.

    Conservative Texas > Liberal California.

Y'all have a better natural landscape in many ways and much better social policies on paper, but y'all are bankrupt and can't seem to stop moving here in hordes.

I'm really just fooling by pointing this out, but still.

I'm not generalizing at all. I am being very specific. The GOP can suck it. The GOP's institutional bigotry, shameless misogyny, inbred phobia of science, religious proselytizing, trickle-down hucksterism, fear mongering, and unfiltered hatred can suck it.

I'm not really looking to talk about Romney any longer. I've always had a feeling he really wanted to be President mostly to bring legitimacy to the Mormon faith. And like the saying goes "a whipped dog doesn't bark". He'll go back to concentrating his efforts on his business and his faith.

  • I still think he would have done a fine job as the President. However, I think today it is more of a risk than it was 4 years ago, before the crash.

How could this not have been mentioned in this thread? Or did I just not see it? Was this for real? Come on, it can't be or can it?

Ha! My loyal sparing partner. I know the next time I want exaggerated litigation fees I can call on you.

And if I have a reason to know more, then I will acquire that knowledge for a fair and reasonable price.

    Cheers!

I figure that if you still haven't worked out the difference between "socialism" and "social democracy" after four years, then there's a pretty strong likelihood you may just be stupid.
