People really need to chill before they take any SINGLE poll and try to make too much of it:b,121b,121"Five of the eight tracking polls moved toward Barack Obama today; the other three moved toward McCain. It's possible that there was a very slight shift in momentum toward John McCain last week, and that it's been counteracted by a similar shift toward Barack Obama after the Colin Powell endorsement. It's also possible that we've simply been reading too much into what amounts to statistical noise. Either way, our Super Tracker thinks that Obama is now no more than half a point off his peak numbers, which were realized earlier this month."b,121a href="http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/" target="_blank"1http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/b,121b,121b,121Look, Pew put this out today, based on THEIR poll:b,121b,121"Doubts Grow About McCain's Judgment, Age and Campaignb,121b,121Obama's Lead Widens: 52%-38%"b,121a href="http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1000/obama-lead-widens" target="_blank"1http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1000/obama-lead-widensb,121b,121b,121Maybe AP is wrong. Maybe Pew is wrong. The point? Take things with a grain of salt on any single poll. b,121b,121Averaging the polls is a slight improvement - there's historical precedence to suggest that this has been accurate (though not perfectly so) the last 30 years. And what do the averages say?b,121b,121538: 51.8 --- 46.8 (Obama/McCain)b,121RCP: 49.9 --- 42.9b,121b,121Don't be complacent...but don't freak out.

There is a strong argument that if there is political blame it is bipartisan here, but never mind. The perception is that the economic meltdown is the fault of the party in the White House. It's possible that there is what some have called a "bradley effect." It's possible that many of the expected youth voters who will show up for the first time for Obama will stay home and play their grand theft auto and smoke their hydroponic weed. But the Republicans I know are preparing for the worst. b,121b,121So congratulations socialist hippies.

And I too worry about the 11 trillion dollar debt, particularly if the Chinese and Indians stop purchasing our bonds. But I don't get the impression St. Baracketh is going to balance the budget. Indeed, he's talking like he is going to create even greater debt. You may like what his debt is going towards. But I don't think his administration will be "grown up" in a fiscal sense.

I was just quoting back something the Rs were saying in 2000.b,121b, 21This mess will take a long time to clean up. It will require that Rs quit being obstructionist. We will all have to work together. Even if the Republicans don't like Obama it is important that they support him and show respect for the office of the presidency. b,121b,121You know they are saying there are 50 trillion dollars in CSS, derivatives and all these other "investments" that are backed by absolutely nothing? We are only experiencing the tip of the iceberg.
