So, now that it's official, what's you guys' take on the Mavs' acquisition of JKidd?
May effectively counter your squad's tenderberry tendencies.
What are your thoughts on the current rumor that Avery demanded Cubes shop Noswagski after last-year's first round collapse?
Well, what do you think of Pete Vecsey columns?
To answer your question: not much.
Cubes:
The dirt. Peter Vescey's ridiculous assertion that Avery asked me to trade Dirk. Even in the Nellie years where we discussed trading every other player on the roster, Dirk was never mentioned. There has never been a discussion of trading Dirk during my tenure, EVER. Vescey's source is an out and out liar.
The thing about dealing with the media in this business is that they thrive on rumors and get bored with reality.
For example. Several local media outlets had no interest in sending anyone to New Orleans to cover the All Star game or Dirk's appearance there. That changed once the trade rumors started. Then all of the sudden, every media person they could find was there. Newscasts led with the rumors. Newspapers speculated and comments on the impact of the rumors if true or not true. There was reporting on rumors about rumors. All of which is fine. I get that and in many many ways, its good for the Mavs and the NBA. It drives interest.
This trade is all about dropping tenderberries. We are so old now. Go on and sign P.J. Brown.
Having KVH in the deal probably cost Cuban another 27 million dollars. I applaud their efforts to get better and making the hard decision that the team as constructed wasn't going to get it done. The team was clearly stagnating. My money is on Kidd and the chip he'll have on his shoulder. Shit, the dude is supposedly having a down year but statistically he's still having a season that will only be rivaled by Magic and the Big O. I'm excited.

a great way for the spurs to eliminate that one guy that can kinda guard tim duncan in post season play... (well, maybe not totally effectively, but he can hold tim's numbers down a bit.)
hmmmmmmmmmm, maybe they could acquire him ensuring that none of their competitors do?
then again, Kurt Thomas did squat against Duncan during the past two seasons, so fine, take him, whatever. It's just mindgames Popp is playing with D'Antoni and Kerr but fuk'em, SUNS GOT THE BIG SHAQTUS

This is a great move by the Spurs. The Suns were idiots to let Thomas go for basically nothing. I hope Thomas has a chance to make the Suns regret it in the playoffs. For years Kurt Thomas has been quietly playing tough defense and rebounding aggressively while consistently knocking down twenty foot jumpers. Plus he has "crazy eyes."

Word up. Nice pickup for the Spurs, should help in the playoffs for sure.

As a bonus, it's got Suns fans in a tizzy.
why don't the celts make moves like this?? or any team in the east, for that matter? both d. stoudamire and k. thomas, while no longer studs, could still help just about any team coming off the bench.
i guess the celtics in particular may not have as much trade bait, but still...
i'm going to have to disagree w/ mylat in that thomas did do a pretty good job on duncan in the playoffs last year-- he had some old veteran (read: illegal) moves that were getting into duncan's head, and he was missing shots he (TD) would have otherwise made. I'm not saying duncan was shut down by thomas by any stretch of the imagination, just that anything anyone can do against duncan is good for that team.
As for the suns letting thomas go-- it was completely idiotic because the reason they gave at the time was "payroll cap" which now, they apparently don't give two shits about with shaq's monstrosity of a contract. Overall, I've been pretty disappointed by most of the moves made since Kerr joined the front office, his 'old-school' mentality completely goes against the more newly-developed model of nba franchise makeover/management (a la bryan and jerry colangelo). kerr is pushing a model on a team that was not built for it, and i don't think the results will be positive.

Thomas will play alongside Duncan and alleviate some of the defensive responsabilities. Very good move cause Elson and Oberto arent getting the job done.

The suns made a similar move when they let James Jones go to Portland over the summer. Letting good role players like James and Thomas go just to save salary can't be very inspiring to the other players on the team. Adding Shaq's hefty contract half a year later just makes things more confusing, seems like Kerr is on some fantasy basketball shit.

Well wouldnt making cap space allow them to aquire someone like Shaq?

They didn't use available cap space to sign Shaq. They traded matching contracts for him. There is no way that a three point specialist like Jones wouldn't be helpful now to a team with Jabba The Shaq in the middle.

I know nothing about him really but I hear he's got no beef and can't bang. I doubt he sees much PT.
(I miss the "crazy" graemlin.)
he needs to thicken up some, he should be hitting the buffet hard. How old is he? Most guys thicken up around their mid-20's.
