Racism occures on a continium. Someone who is raised in urban poor Black America is a victim of racism. If that person ends up as a pimp or whore they are a victim of racism. If that person raps about pimps and whores they are taking the racism they have been thrown in and making art (or entertainment) out of it (potentially). People who appreciate that art (or entertainment) may (or may not) be supporting negative stereotypes. They likely are promoting the negative effects of racism.
Contrast that to pimp&ho parties which mock the suffering of women and the men who oppress them while making fun of Blacks. Does not seem like the same thing to me.

I agree that thee parties are dumb most of the time, but why are people making this into a race issue? being a pimp or ho is not bound by race but more bound by economic background... unless of course you get to the level of Heidi fleiss... you know a white WOMAN who became one of the most known "pimps" in recent history...
Nobody goes to these parties dressed as Heidi Fleiss. Nor do they go dressed as Italian, Chinese or Jewish pimps. They go dressed as a stereotype of what they think an urban Black pimp would look like. I agree with you that pimping and hoing knows no race, these parties are about parodying one race. Get it now?
i dont mean to defend these kinds of parties, and i do agree there is a weird subtle racism going on, but if you gave some kind of quiz on what a "pimp" dresses like, it would be the beforementioned getup, and it has nothing to do with the color of the guy in the clothes. they are dressing up like stereotypical pimps, not stereotypical black pimps. if that makes any sense. i doubt race comes into peoples minds when going to these parties (obviously)

I thought it was a bad look at the time to throw such a party but I thought it would be funny to go, real fucked up, real as a muthafucka, and laugh at those college kids.
It bothered me because I was living a double life. I had all my college kid friends, then I dwelled in the hood, in a negative lifestyle, not pimpin or hoin, but next to it. It was real to me and not that cool.
Iron Monkey took me to a movie premiere a couple years back for a film about Fillmore Slim. All the major characters were there (Rosebud Bitterdose, Fillmore Slim, etc.) all of them dressed to the 9's and many of them accompanied by women who might of been hoes.
The move was a documentary made by pimps about pimps with a little part dedicated solely to Fillmore Slim. The movie defintly needed work and I offered to help edit, but after talking with several other people I know in film and tv I was told it may not be a smart move to get involved.

I dont get it, dont condone it. I have had many convos w/ him about how he mentally tricks them into giving up the money she makes off of selling her holes to strangers. he always tells me...it aint for everybody, and she(they) can always leave. I believe that unless somebody is pointing a gun at your head...its your choice. i also have known a few women who are smarter, making all the money for themselves...fuck a pimp !

Since you've provided some insight on the logic of the people who attend these parties--all of whom are obviously out to defame black people--perhaps you might also speak on the rampant use of "The Wire" avatars on Soul Strut. It seems a bit paradoxical to me that you would critique black appropriation while representing yourself through an image of blackness.
Nothing new. Corny, attention-starved bonehead white fratboys throwing these parties and rightfully getting flack for it always makes the local news around Halloween and New Years. This isn't directed to Danno for creating the thread nor anyone in particular who has debated so far, but obviously this shit is geeky, insensitive and goes against all common decency. Therefore, I don't why we need to constantly have these moral superiority pissing contests (yeah, yeah...I know what I sound like. Who gives a shit?). It just seems seems odd that there are threads like this on a weekly basis and yet there have been discussions here in the past with, for the sake of example, generally speaking and going off of memory, dudes showing off their knowledge of white-on-nonwhite porn videos? These people think if you not burning a cross or dragging a Black man behind your truck your not being racist. These people don't believe that racism causes poverty and crime. So call it unconscious racism.
