I'm up in the air about the commentary being placed on top of this concurrent with it being shot, or after, but this video should be dispersed in the US media, and no it's not[/b] Grant Green playing some guitar licks, and yes, it is British troops, but still:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNBFQrd5oGo&search=grant%20green

    War makes people insane.

This is disgusting. Both the soldiers' actions as well as the dude behind the camera's comments. The lack of respect for human life simply baffles me.

Good god. There are just so many layers of unfathomable inhumanity in that video, it's hard to even comprehend.

At one point those soldiers were normal civilians, going about their lives as we do ours. Dehumanizing military training and months/years of living in combat have turned them into monsters. Now, in the case that they make it back home alive, who's going to un-train them? Who's going to take the time and unwarp their relationship with the world? Who's going to remind them that all human life has inherent and irrevocable value? And who, if they're ever lucky enough to return to some semblance of normalcy, is ever going to help them come to terms with what they did? Nobody. You'll be lucky to get a parade, and your name on a fucking plaque. [/rant]

And this is why we will never "win" a guerilla "war."

THe news of the murder of innocent civilians today just sent chills up and down my spine. One of the witnesses was a nine year old girl who survived because herdead family members fell on top of her. This is a Vietnam redux in a big way.

    US marines 'massacred Iraqi civilians'
    3.25PM, Tue Mar 21 2006

A US magazine has released a video it claims shows a civilian massacre by American marines in Iraq.

The incident, which happened last November in the town of Haditha, was captured by a journalism student, Time Magazine says.

The graphic footage shows heavily bloodstained rooms, and bodies of the alleged victims wrapped in rugs at the house and in the local morgue.

Residents in the Iraqi town claim the incident happened shortly after a roadside bomb killed a US Marine in a western Iraqi town last year.

US forces went into nearby houses and shot dead 15 members of two families, including a three year-old-girl, residents said.

"American troops immediately cordoned the area and raided two nearby houses, shooting at everyone inside," said a witness. "It was a massacre in every sense of the word."

Time said the available evidence did not provide conclusive proof that the Marines deliberately killed innocent civilians.

The US Military, after being presented with evidence in January, concluded that civilians were killed by Marines, Time said, victims of "collateral damage" rather than deliberate murder.

Lieutenant General Peter Chiarelli, the number-two US commander in Iraq, said about 12 Marines were under investigation for possible war crimes in the incident. He said the case was referred to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Did anyone see Dennis Murtha on Meet The Press? He just killed Bush and those guys.

This was all over the news about 1-2 months ago. Big commotion, and then I didn't really hear more about it. What has happened since then? Did it have any consequences? Seems like it just slid out of sight out of mind, but I could be wrong since I have been a bit out of the news loop lately. Anyway, it's a sad view.

This video "leaked" days after the cartoon controversy began, just as the additional batch of Abu Graibh pictures "leaked" right after it. This is common strategy. I remember some manager being quoted the day after the WTC drama saying: "This is the perfect time to release bad news."

    And apparently it works.

Im sad to think of the horrors we dont see or know about. The nature of the beast (humans) is as horrid as can be imagined. Violence makes me sick and unable to function.

This footage does not contain the earlier bit that was shown on the UK news of the soilders being stoned outside of the compound.
You can't throw rocks at people then cry when they hit you back...

Erm, throwing rocks at dudes in full body armour really does not equate to booting a prone unarmed kid in the nuts whilst wearing a pair of big-ass boots.

Maybe so....but you can't occupy a country against the will of many of the people and not expect rocks to be thrown. also, what the fuck does a rock equal next to a gun or a baton?

I'm not saying that it is fair, but in that situation you cannot involve yourself then act all ass hurt when you get a beating...
Reminds me of a guy who used to live in my towerblock who got involved in a fight with the police who were trying to arrest him and was complaining that they used CS gas on him..."but I was only punching him in the head..."
    Whatever...

I did not see any weapons discharged did you ?
Do you think the troops should be unarmed and should retaliate like for like ?
We are there right or wrong now, and it is not the fault of individual servicemen that we are, they are doing a difficult job and obviously are the focus of peoples hatred when it boils up.
Yes they overeacted, but how many of us if put in that situation would turn the other cheek ???

I understand that people in Iraq and the middle east found the voice-over the most disturbing about this clip and although that kick in the nuts drains the blood out of my head, I too am most sickened by the commentator, who was their superior. That somehow explains to me that this is not just an overreaction but a sign of a very wrong army culture (in that particular unit anyway).

Do you really need to discharge a weapon when everyone knows you have it?
The whole 'we are there now, like it or not" argument is what got soldiers there in the first place.
I would not overreact in that situation, because i wouldn't ever occupy someones country and put myself in the situation in the first place.

Also, we definitely shouldn't be debating this amongst eachother. Shouldn't we be trying to do something about this situation, and all of the others that pop up? Have we become so lost that we really only have time to react to a situation like this by chatting about it on a record collecting board?

    Why not ?

Surely this board has gone beyond "just" talking about records and seems to cover a wide spectrum of topics (porn/cars/real world problems etc...) Why not discuss this, espically as people will probably have widely differing views, leading to a hopefully insightfull debate...or multiple pages of name calling and mud slinging...

If the suspects were in custody, I don't see the need of beating them behind a fence with shoes and batons. Soldiers don't seem trained to win the hearts and minds of Iraqis. The most recent and disturbing news I've heard was this:

America is hiring mercenaries to fight this war with the promise of citizenship after the war.[/b]

This was the beginning of the end in the Roman Empire, and it will be the beginning of the end for America if it is chosen as a viable practice for our wars.

What the fuck would you do if your country was invaded and occupied? Sit there and kiss their asses all day long?

The guy narrating the tape sounds like some kind of demented soccer hooligan.

    Disgusting...

What would you do if I was throwing stones at you ?
Walk away ? Ask me polietly to stop ?
I suspect an ass kicking would follow.
So why is it any different here ???

These are soldiers, not civilians. We put them in situations like this because they are "trained" to handle it better than you or I would, no?

Yes, but they are only human and everyone has a breaking point, espcially after weeks or months in a hostile and stressfull enviroment.

This sounds like a pitch for a new Bruckheimer movie.

    Sadly it's not...
