walked into a spot today that i seldom check out because they usually have a pretty dismal selection. the store also has tons of records that are out, but not accessible to customers. i thumb through an unpriced section, and ask the dude if he can price them if i pull some out. said he would check them out online since the records were 'higher end'. well, it was mostly shit, the same shit that i sift through on every other visit. but i did pull out vg copies of the following:
baby huey lp promo
james brown - reality lp
lyn collins - check me out lp
willie mitchell - solid soul lp
new birth - birthday lp
nite liters - different strokes lp
world class wreckin cru - turn off the lights lp
too short - born to mack lp
leroy hutson - feel the spirit lp
betty davis - they say im different lp
plus a couple of clunkers to possibly balance the damage.
i take the records to the register, totally expecting him to price them silly high, he looked at each of them, and told me none of them were for sale, cuz he can get money for them online. he never checked the computer, and had no interest in even trying to sell them to me. i walked out kind pissed. so now i have no weekend finds.
That pissed me off just reading it.
You should have punched him in the face, threw a pocket full of change on the counter and left with them.
You gotta love record store clerks that get their customers to select which records to list online next week.
one notorious dude down here has a store full of (mostly) crap and does this...fucking ruthless. because among the clutter crap, i've found stuff like ESP disk promos, lots of awesome private press shit, and some cool imports. but i've learned to either a) buy the rec's when his 16 year old backwards-baseball cap wearing clerk is working since dude doesn't know shit about records (and is too lazy to look em up in the "price guide") or b) bring it up to the counter only if i intend on buying. other than that, it stays in the clutter, and dude gets the as i intentionally bring up the high inergy and tavares rec's he prices at 14 a pop.

over 100 pieces in total as well as a bunch of books, so I pretty much cleared it out. Still going thru it. A good Saturday considering how I still felt like shit from this lingering cold/flu. But it was good to get my fingers dirty again.

I think you'll dig it - it's an old head record, there's a couple ballads that the old soul set play out here. There is also breakbeatfast and a nice sample joint.
It can get some decent dough, last copy I had I flipped for 50 or 60, I think on ebay it might get a bit less.

Hahahaha!!! That's exactly what I was thinking. But there are certainly much worse Strutters you could be imitating. Pickwick33 is the man.
J*nny - that Black Lightning is plenty playable for my purposes but would probably grade at a VG- so inclusion in Good Records' store stock would probably be BTW I'll be in NYC next month; I'm looking forward to checking out the store and finally meeting ya IRL.

But lo and behold, during my last visit I looked through it for the umpteenth time and found a funny little thing:
Strange local 7". I imagine that this was a group that toured the discotheque circuit during the 70s, and this must have been sold after shows.
The vocals are terrible - danes trying to sing in a 'funky' way in english with a danish accent - but the music is kinda cool.

spitthis recordI really dig the B-side on that one. Her Tamla material is probably the best female Motown stuff of the 60's, except for maybe Gladys Knight.
WAY too often the case. So many of those bands rock until the vocals come in, and you are reaching for the needle...
Scott actually had the hit - #1 R&B and in the top 40 pop, his was the OG that was covered by so many.
Jeez , am I ripping off pickwick33's posting style or what?!
