I live in the whitest, immigrant free, place ever these days. That doesn't stop there being plenty of small minded rascist types. They seem to come in two main forms; the archetypical country bumpkin who's never left the county, and the White flight evacuees. The first lot are mostly wilfully ingorant and openly bigoted, the second lot generally know it's socially unacceptable to be rascist these days, so they make veiled references to how they don't recognise the Country any more and tell you they left the SE because off little Jimmy's asthma, but still keep up their 40 a day habit. They dangle these comments like hooks to see if you'll bite and free them to vent thier true feelings. They'll both tell you the Country's going to the dogs and it's generally the fault of 'others', whilst themselves being lazy, unreliable feckless types. But I doubt this is news to any of yous.
The country's always been full of small minded rascist types. All these long term Torrie voters who are now feeling "let down" because the party they've been voting for for 40 years is no longer bigoted enough for them. Smh. I understand there are communities out there struggling with the very real day to day problems of mass immigration, but as Doc said, all UKIP offer is the false hope of 'change', all they'll bring is a whole new set off issues. I doubt they'll ever be popular enough to get any real power, and hope that splitting the right's vote will do us the favour of weakening the Tories.
That's what they are pushing at the moment. Ukip need to tap into the traditional Labour Northern heartlands, I guess they're banking on the fact that they're 'not the Tories' and hope that people are just as bigoted up norf.
There's also been talk that UKIP are after Lib Dem votes as well, which I just cram to understand. It boggles the mind to think that people who can form an opinion and vote can actually make such a shift when the parties are so diametrically opposed, but I guess some are that stupid. I can sort of understand some Labour voters, growing up in a Labour dominated area, being brought up to hate the Tories, etc, but not really finding a great love for what the Labour Party has become. I can understand maybe their dislike of johnny foreign being greater than some historical allegiance to the Socialist left. But who is bred a Lib Dem? Surely that's something you choose because their Liberal ideals appeal to you and you don't care about voting for someone who'll never win.
God knows. I try to pay as little attention to the lot of em as possible. But UKIP and some of the press are pretty keen to push this idea that everyone and anyone is flocking to their beacon of hope. But the little bits of coverage I saw from this last by-election, it was all lifelong torie voters saying how 'let down' they felt. urg.
I think it's dissatisfaction. The same thing that got the Lib Dems a wedge. People only look for alternatives when they're feeling the pinch. Shit has really hit the fan when the loud pisshead in the corner of the pub spouting his racist bollocks is suddenly the subject of internet chihuahua memes instead of just being ignored.
this is all i know about ukip, and it's enough to not like them.
I dunno... without UKIP those pisstake tweets wouldn't be possible!

I got lean* last night what with all the talk about shower-beers and today realised I poasted this on the Graun:
England should become a no-man's-land, the first country without identity or need of, a country that can be entered without a passport that has no traditional border controls, no controls on the movement of people just as there are no controls on the movement of capital - England, or rather London, has become one of the world's financial capitals because of it's laxness regarding the investment and embezzlement of money. Money drives London, and by extension England, and people should have the same freedom. Forget politics, identity, and ownership. Deregulate everything. Make the country as universal as the language.
I was drunk when I wrote this but I still think it's a good idea. London to become a giant Mos Eisley Cantina. The Tories have sold almost everything, national identity is still left.
More musicians should name songs after footballers so I'm able watch some of these compilation clips without furiously clicking the mute button when the inevitable trance anthem kicks in.
Last night's game vs Anderlect was looking like more of the same, and then two late, late goals. Wenger said his substitution gambles paid-off, but really he's trying too hard to paper over the cracks. The team wasn't clicking at all. The only good performance I've seen from Arsenal this season was against Man City, and we contrived to give away a late equaliser following the usual injury.
And explain the issue with swapping shirts at half time.
Unless its about giving insider info on subs /team for the second half, I can't see what the problem is.

That said, what a waste of 16 million quid.
Carra kinda deaded this whole situation on the Sky Sports post-match. Balo was approaching the locker room and knew he wasn't coming back in. Pepe offered his shirt to him. Is he going to say "no" to one of the most sub-par defenders in modern football?
The Arsenal midefield contains more silky-footed dwarves than a 9-yo princesses Disney plush toy collection
I think this is the line that I was trying to think of. Or something about snatching defeat from the jaws of 4th place.

Not really here for the whole "LFC's problems are down to Balotelli" wave, to be honest. Yes, he hasn't been very good so far and yes, we need him to be doing an awful lot more, not least scoring goals. But in all honesty there's only about five players in the entire squad who've shown any real eagerness to put in a full shift this season. Balotelli's just an easy, obvious target. Our midfield's made of marshmallow and we've got a back four prone to blackouts at less than opportune moments. Add in Sturridge's fitness problems and the (thus far) near-total failure to adapt to having lost Suarez, and Mario's form is just another problem amongst many, begging the question; why always him?
The whole symbolism behind swapping shirts, I'm sure you're aware, arises from its origins a gesture of mutual respect made once the contest is over. Swapping shirts at half-time is therefore widely considered Very Poor Form Indeed. It means fuck-all in the grand scheme of things, but it does give the back pages another stick to beat Mario with. Speaking of which...

You gotta go with Queen "Don't Stop Me Now" for a cremation.
Does Robbie Williams get royalties from the Cremmo when foll and foll request "Angles"(sic) as their entrance to the choir invisible?
Theoretically, yes. Cremmos will all have PRS licences (sticker in the window and that). Some of the money generated from the issue of those licences, as well as the nebulous "other income", goes into a pot which is divided up amongst the PRS's membership, usually following the annual AGM, where Pete Waterman would regularly kick up a stink about how he should have got a bigger share when SAW productions were everywhere. Quite often the main beneficiaries would be people like McCartney, Elton John, Chris De Burgh or other internationally successful writer/performers, on the basis they'd written loads of hit songs, many of which had been widely covered, and so those songs must therefore have been performed and broadcast equally widely. Angles probably meets those criteria quite comfortably, I'd say, although I doubt whether it shows up on Robbie's statement as "churches and funeral homes".
Having been to a couple of cremmos this year, I have decided I am going out to "Through the Fire", subtle Eliane Elias instrumental (the one that made Herbie Hancock cry) for folls to file in to, Chaka vocal on the way out. I do have a genuine affection for the tune.
(Checks to make sure it's a David Foster ditty. Yup.)
^That^ is brilliant. Cassetteboy's politics videos are always close to the bone (b'dum tish).

We appear to have "lost" some pages and a few posts during the changeover (glitch-in-the-Matrix-R). I'm sure it'll all come out in the wash. New format looks nice and clean, eh?
Suzi Quatro's covered The Normal's Warm Leatherette. It's ace.

I think we'd mentioned something about the joy of perusing old pages. Glad Raj always manages to keep so much of the historical Strut active, even if some of it I'd rather forget ;-p
