December Finds

-the new donald fagen is fucking amazing (minus 1 or 2 songs), has grown on me big time. "miss marlene" is the best song ever written about bowling. the klezmer version of isaac haye's "out of the ghetto" is ridiculous and incredibly ill-advised (although portions of it are brilliantly arranged): when don is talking about the ghetto i think he is reffering to the old european jewish ghettos. "not the same without you" is another highlight (check that harmonica solo). incrdible musicanship throughout, don presents a new set of young lions.

-carter jefferson is excellent modal ish from one of woody shaw's main men; one of the few muse records that is kinda tougher to find.

  • Flea market finds with visiting strutter Guzzo
Love this Ruth Price vocal jazz LP for .25c at the flea
    Ruth Price-I'm Old Fashioned

ZZ Hill was a nice Swamp Dogg production that i've slept on for too long.

More flea market finds. The highlight by far being Heavenly Five which is good lo-fi bluesy gospel. Hopefully these divshare links work.
    Heavenly Five-Trust In The Lord
    Don't Let The Devil Ride

    street sale cheap finds

Jerrys Records scores a few weeks ago!
Los Naufragos is good pop/60s beat. Check the second song at the 2:49 mark of this full youtube rip of the LP.
    Los Naufragos Full Album Link
US of A is a double in EX condish if anyone needs it PM me.

    record fair finds

  • Never found anything but crap at a Goodwill until today...

All the Jackie Wilsons are sealed as is the Basie. Everything else is NM or darn close...even if some of these aren't really my bag they were way too clean to pass up for buck a pop!

Hutson & O'Jays/Moments were mailbox finds from Dusty Groove (thanks for the birthday gift card, bro). Everything else is from a local shop I hit up every so often.

I think I probably enjoy the cover on that JB album more than the music!

This contains the desirable mix of that perennially sweated Valli Scavelli thing, right?

(In a side note: "perineal sweat"--don't google it. Trust me.)

Happy with these three Ebay purchases. I recommend that Chivo Borraro to anyone that likes jazz fusion with a sort of "ethnic recording" feel to it. Unique stuff.

    UMMMMMMMMMMMMM :pasue:

    2) Did dudes find Barbara Mason adorable BITD? She has all these cheesecake covers and she was a dog. I don't get it.

It used to be people appreciated the beauty in women.
Thus someone like Marilyn Monroe could be a major sex symbol when today she wouldn't even be able to get a job at a strip club.

Someone like Barbra Mason could do her own lp covers because they didn't need to get super models to front for her. People appreciated her for who she was and how she looked.

Today even a giant talent like Martha Wash are not allowed to put out their own records because their looks are not up to today's standards.

    I think it's sad.

I don't think that's it Dan. She is always in sexy poses, insinuating to the user that she should be seen as sexy, although she is not. They didn't do that with Nina Simone. They didn't do that with Aretha. I'm guessing they did it with Barbara Mason because people somewhere, somehow thought she was hot. I'm just curious, I wasn't there. One of her most attractive covers is her Prelude LP, where she's not being overtly sexual, seen here:

I see what you are saying.

There were, and still are, lots of attempts at sexy that fail.

What about that Most Requested Band cover?

We were just talking about that Terry Callier.
There is that Diana Ross where she looks like a "your $5 a month will feed this child" ad.

got these from a dude who had a stall at the municipal market, where I went to buy some meat to make for dinner:

Bebeto is an early 90s reissue on Beverly, but it's not really a record I would hold out to find an OG copy and this one was cheap enough. This is the same guy who last month hooked me up with a pristine copy of "Maria Fuma??a" by Banda Black Rio. I'm gonna try to make a trip to his store, it's a few stops outside Porto Alegre on the commuter rail.

the back of that Os Incriveis deserves a special mention, I think:
