(i.e.: peppy latin-tinged mod soul tunes like "Make Out" and "Micro Mini" along with a few covers. It's not funky, and not really even that latin-sounding IMO, but a very club-friendly album for the right crowd. Certainly a nice personal find for a buck. If you like early Mongo Santamaria, you may like this - Mongo compadre Marty Sheller cowrote some of the tunes. I'll be playing this quite a bit at my gigs in the upcoming months.)
i dig that harvey averne lp. ever hear that Terry Riley piece that reworks "You're No Good"? Pretty cool stuff.

i dig that harvey averne lp. ever hear that Terry Riley piece that reworks "You're No Good"? Pretty cool stuff. fuck yeah..."Poppy No good". I heard it in some art video by some british cats (Nick Relph and Oliver Payne's film "Mixtape"). I became quite obsessed with that song after that. The copy of that Harvey Averne I found was completely rinked except for that song.
just got back from Amoeba just so happened to walk in 5 mintes before DJ Z-trip took the stage to do a set made for nice digging music. Picked up:
Jack Daugherty[/b] "Carmel By the Sea" (Monterey) - sealed private press jazz LP double[/b]
Starpoint[/b] "It's So Delicious" (Boardwalk) - synthy modern soul...nowhere as good as the joint from '81 but good nonetheless
Ron Tutt[/b] "Sheffield Drum Record" (Sheffiled) - double[/b]
Curtis Mayfield[/b] "Live in Europe" (Curtom) - anyone seen this before? kinda shocked when I came across this.I showed it to a few folks including fellow soulstrutter Funkyexample and no one knew anything about this
Vic Taylor[/b] "Star Time" (Dynamic) - somewhat ok version of I Who Have Nothing, but not too impressive, at least not to me.
and sitting in the jazz section with a $1.99 sticker on it:
Trying to use digging to keep my mind off of other shit at the moment. Anyways, from the trenches today. George McCrae - Rock Your Baby (TK) Larry Young - Into Somethin' (Blue Note) Salsoul Orchestra - Chrismas Jollies (Salsoul) The Commodores - s/t (Motown)

dude, i think i was standing right next to you when you pulled that! i almost pulled that one but i wasnt getting a clear signal from my spidy-sense.
yeah, i didnt know it was z-trip till they announced it, that was a nice suprise. i was digging the elenor rigby thing. all i found was a Young and Company on Brunswick, it was in the row to your left.
It's not what I expected. I had heard this album described as a modern soul piece and it was anything but. Jazzy/ Psych LP from the late 70's nice in places but not a solid listen all the way through. Best part of the album is the start of the 2nd side, a nice mellow acoustic guitar track called "Strength & Love" that leads into a funky track called "Stompin Feet".
Karlophone[/b] Yeah that was me, I saw you grip that Young & Company. What d'you cop? by the way did you stick arond for the whole Z-trip thing? I managed to watch him for like 30 minutes....well it was more like people watch...I find it kinda funny when folks stand around a DJ on a stage. I do love them kids in the audience though who throw up thier hands and go buckwild when they hear "Oh Lord Won't You But Me A Mercedes Benz"

I don't know if I'd say psych, but jazz fusion for sure. My uncle was friends with the band and Dartanyan Brown definately made that album what it is(was). It's worth some scrilla.

He was hands down the coolest person i've ever dealt with when it comes to buying records. We talked for 3 1/2 hours about all KINDS of shit. Mostly about him kicking it with musicians (Cannonball Adderley, Zawinul, Ike Turner, Albert Collins etc.) and various stories of debauchery. Dude should write a book.
