there is a bit of rapping on this, but it still doesn't belong in the other thread. nothing you haven't heard before either....

I've been playing this way too much for my own good. So much good production on there.

I'm not particularly a fan of the Solange and the video is pretty meh, but the song is great. produced by Dev Hynes, who I have a vague recollection of reading an interview with where he said he'd been dissecting Madonna songs to see where the magic came from, or something to that effect. Guess this is the fruit of that endeavor. Personally there is something about the layered synths that just does it for me in these mellow rnb tracks, same with the Alicia Keys - Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart and other tracks I can't recall right now.

Yeah I'm with you on this. It sounds like something from around the True Blue period. I know a couple of ladies who should be extremely stoked when they hear this. Personally, not mad at it at all either but then I'm now fully immersed in eighties nostalgia.

Recorded in Ghana, produced in London.

I love this song (and video). I've played it every week for the past month at my weekly. I even played a rip of the YouTube video the first week or two until the mp3 was available for purchase!

  • First heard this on the Frank the Butcher & 7L Searching mix .. think it was a RSD release

[EDIT] * from 2010 but who knew, still *

That Adrian Younge / Venice Dawn is pretty ill too, been about for a minute

In an almost complete counter, I love the video in my post but the song is pretty meh. I just love the idea of recording on one side of the world that contrasts your own, taking it home and chopping it up.. Had to clarify, it's been irking me.. Therapy session over.
I think the Busy Twist and even the LV and Okmalumkoolkat video I posted on the previous page are good example of doing it right. Where as the Solange video she just seems to in Africa cause she can, and to try and jack a little swag from those dapper S.A.P.E fellas. *the ???Soci??t?? des Ambianceurs et des Personnes El??gantes??? To kind of link in with the RnB appreciation in the last page or so of this thread (and to just reinforce that on subsequent listens I really like that Solange track though it's a real shame they didn't get it out in time for Summer), the new Miguel album is pretty great.

At the moment I think I still prefer the highs of the Art Dealer Chic EP overall but luckily he's included the best track from those on here anyway.

I guess there's a gazillion people out there doing these kinds of beats...Clams Casino caught my ear, and so has this guy.

Rad Chez, thanks for the heads up on that new Greg Foat 10". "Dark Is The Sun" was my favorite release of 2011 and I've been fiending for some new material. Sound real good to me, will cop for sure.

Really digging the cosmic style of these:

Finally got around to listening to that Actress album and have to say I'm taken aback.

Spent a lazy Sunday evening really listening to this (lying on bed, staring at ceiling through the entirety), and R.I.P will be my album of the year, easy. It's been yonks since I've enjoyed an LP this much... I urge any doubters/mildly curious types who haven't done so already to give this a go.

Burial/Zomby/etc vibes... wait for the acid!

some oldskool ish I stumbled on

I like that funk sound. Is it on any album?

Not as yet. I think Swindle's working on his first full-length at the moment.

I love this Amy Winehouse cover he did a little while back.

It feels a bit over-produced to me which is a shame as she has a great voice and it's a good song. Maybe there will be some slightly more slightly remixes of it.

listening to newer brazilian stuff, the best new music tends to be hip-hop. Don L is pretty good, he says he's releasing 2 mixtapes next year. I like these songs:

also a lot of dubby music coming out, it works well with brazilian music. Caf?? Preto is one example, the singer is from a punk band called Devotos do Odio, so there's a punkish element to it too:

And something on the Portland-Indie-musicians (Suno)))), Jackie O MF, etc)

Also psyched for this euro-man-future-baroque-jazz release:

One that popped-up on my radar from an end-of-year list, the yootoob fits the music quite well too:

    Bass, UK style.
