Occasional spitballs aside, this has been a good discussion. Not that anyone needs to agree, but at least this album is worth the discussion- as opposed to say, Drake.
Kind of a random question, but why does Kanye use Pusha T on 2 of his songs? Does Kanye not like the other brother Thornton, Malice?
I don't have an answer to that second question but Pusha is also on 4 of the Good Friday songs plus was part of the Good Music BET Cypher (whereas Malice was not). Maybe Pusha is doing a solo deal with Good?
600,000 first week = MILESTONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd be shocked if any Public Enemy album had done that it in its first week.
In fact, I believe It Takes a Nation was released in April and wasn't certified Gold until late September (that was, of course, several years before SoundScan).
On the Chris Rock feature that seems to have rubbed people the wrong way:
That's the conversation that Kanye overhears when he calls his ex at 1:00 a.m. and her phone accidentally calls him back. What Kanye hears when his ex responds to "the local dick's" questions is essentially the voice of a wind-up doll. I don't think Kanye chose Chris Rock because of his delivery; Rock plays the local dick because he's a famous comedian who jokes about the pornographic images inside every man's head and every man's desire to act those out.
I don't think I'm reaching here given Kanye's conflation between communicating with his ex/treating her life a fuck doll.

9.Will Smith: "Big Willie Style." This album by actor/rapper Will Smith was released in 1997, just as he was becoming known on TV as the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air." It sold over nine million copies and included the hits, "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" and "Miami."

Essential!!!!!!!
I'm not saying the sales validate the album; I'm just saying they don't invalidate it.

after going through all 13 pages in one sitting, i have come to several conclusions.
people who dont like kanye west as a person do not like this album.
the main things wrong with this album are repetitively buried guitar tracks or hiccups in the thematic scope of the album causing a disconnect in the narrative/album feel. which is funny, because it's a rap record, not the barber of seville.
i like this album. and that wont change regardless of the varying opinions, tastes and intelligence levels of the [highly respected] soulstrut thinktank.
Perhaps a more apt comparison might be "this generation's Aquemini."
(b/w let's go 5 more!)
Wouldn't "Stankonia" be the more fitting analogy (i.e. mainstream critical favorite, big sales, big production values, etc.?)
Sure - and a preponderance of thinly distorted electric guitar!
Also insufficient Black Power polemic
Hey now, between their recoloring of the American flag on the cover and the hook of "Gasoline Dreams," which opens the album, Outkast laid out some overt politics from jump.
I can't help but think of 50; both he and Kanye seem to not be able to deal with the fact that all the money, fame and trim in the world just won't fill whatever void they feel in their souls.
Clearly, they are coming to terms in different ways.

I'm not seeing this. What specifics inspire the comparison here?

Is there even a single? That aspect of the first week sales *is* kind of nuts.
Singles from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
1. "Power"
Released: July 1, 2010
2. "Runaway"
Released: October 4, 2010
3. "Monster"
Released: October 23, 2010
[I didn't realize Monster was supposed to be a single - I was surprised to hear it on the mixshow a couple weeks ago]
Yeah, I guess I meant that "Power" was basically way old at this point, "Runaway" didn't take off (at least out here) and since then, I've heard every GOOD Friday release (and most of the album) on mixshow anyway.

Yes, Pusha is on GOOD solo
Worse than "head of the class and she just want a swallowship"?
