    Dear both of you:

    THE HABS ARE FOR REAL

  • bassiebassie 11,710 Posts
Oh gosh, I'm not even sure if the Leafs are for real anymore, but these next games...can't look, have to look, can't look, have to look....

  • covecove 1,566 Posts
I can sympathize with that. This is the first time in my life that the Habs aren't a boring team to watch. It's wild. Leading the league in goals??!!

Of course, the playoffs are a different season...

With both Savard & Sundin not playing, it will probably be a pretty equal match still. Tho, I see the leafs making BosT[/b]one their biatch!!!

Can't see the link - is it of him pummeling Nadeau? And they're going to award him for that?

    Sad day in hockey...

Whats the story with that crazy ass shit?

  • DORDOR Two Ron Toe 9,899 Posts
Patrick Roy coaches his sons junior hockey team in Quebec. A brawl broke out. Which is nothing crazy. But Roy's son who is the goalie, all of a sudden decides to skate down to the other end and just start beating the shit out of the other goalie. Which by the look of the fight, did not want to fight what so ever. Even after the guy curls into the fetal position, Roy is still pounding on the guy. Afterwards he fights another guy for a few seconds and while he's being lead of the ice, gives the crowd double fuck you fingers. Some are saying Patrick encouraged his son to open the can of whoopass.

  • tomasltomasl 315 Posts
I don't know the catalyst, but I do know the unwritten code of not fighting a guy that doesn't want to. Dude didn't throw one punch and took how many????

  • bassiebassie 11,710 Posts
As much as I think fighting is BS and kills the rhythm of a game, a 'clean' fight in the course of playing is different from what happened in Quebec as folks have already said. The refs let it go too long (and in most clean fights too). Especially in this case, they are just as responsible imo and deserve to be fined, etc.

Damn that's straight out of an MMA fight! I wouldn't be the least surprised if Roy Jr didn't take some cues from his dad, the apple doesn't fall from the tree.

Uh, so, it wasn't enough for you guys to sweep the season
on us, but you had to crosscheck our best forward in the back
and knock him out for the most important week of the season,
while we're fighting for our playoff lives? The fact that there
was no penalty on the play was atrocious, too - yeah, it was in
Montreal, in the last 2 minutes of the game, but it was a brutal
    and blatant crosscheck.

By the way, Cove - I was at the game at the Garden last Thursday.
Least fun I've had at a Bruins game in a long time, as I was surrounded
(and I mean SURROUNDED) by Habs fans, who took great pleasure in taunting
and ridiculing us home fans as we lost for the 10th straight game to
the Habs. It's getting out of control, this losing.

  • covecove 1,566 Posts
Yeah, that crosscheck was raw. Very much blatant, too. The refs were on us all game for everything, so it was extra peculiar for that to go unnoticed.

Sorry to hear about the classless Habs fans. They can get out of hand... as this IS their religion.
An even .500 against us and we're (BOS/MTL) both in very different situations...

Johnathan Roy= NAGL. Hate him like I hated his dad.
Apparently, Roy Sr. clearly pointed-out the opposing goalie and directed his son. Wouldn't surprise me.

Unfortunately, in a brawl 3 refs can only control so much of the fighting - 5 if nobody has jumped off the benches. What's funny if that it looks like the ref wards off one of the goalie's teammates trying to save him from the beatdown.

  • bassiebassie 11,710 Posts
Yea, the clips I saw don't show much of the refs, so I don't know what the hell they were doing...what the hell anyone was doing letting it go that long. Shameful.
I don't have much faith in their desire to stop that sh*t given endless fights where the refs are just standing watching two dudes punching each other in the head well after the heat of the play has turned into just a stupid fight.

    It also helps sell tickets.
And Game 3 of this rubbish will now be televised....

By the way Cove, although I'm whining about missed
calls and obnoxious fans, don't get it twisted - the
Habs are clearly the better team than the Bruins by far,
and one of the most exciting in the league. I have to admit
I've always been a Kovalev fan, so I'm glad to see him sort
of "re-born" this year in Montreal. The fans sure love him,
they were chanting his name at the Garden even BEFORE he scored
those 2 highlight reel (or goalie blooper reel ) goals ...

... it's funny you say this is the first exciting Habs team
you can remember - this team reminds me of the Canadiens I grew
up watching: a bunch of fast, talented players skating circles
around everyone on the ice, with a quick strike offense that can
kill you. Look at that game against Ottawa last night - another
7 goals for you guys? Yeesh!

  • bassiebassie 11,710 Posts
Yea, but it's not like people are going to stop going to games if they crack down. And if those people stop coming, there are plenty who will take their place

Maybe in the 70's or something... but the Habs of late have been boring teams. Even the team that won it all in 93' (even though, at that point, i was still a Nordiques fan).

The youngins are for real. Most underrated D-men in the league, too.
The only problem is that Koivu is and is still considered a deity here.

Kovalev is . I'm assuming you've seen his Warrior?? videos on YouTube? Nuttery.

I'm glad to see a hockey-related here again, and i could barely wait until playoffs.
(Sadly, I still think Anaheim's gonna take it again this year....)

Am I being unreasonable when I say if the city doesn't get snow and ice, they shouldn't get a hockey team?

A Nordiques fan, becoming a Habs fan?

    or ???

At the game the other night, it was Glen Murray's 1,000th
game, and they had a trivia question on the scoreboard during
one break, "What Team Did Murray Score His First Goal Against?"
with 3 answers to choose from, A) Canadiens B) Penguins or
    C) Nordiques, which was the answer. People were shouting out
answers and I stood up and yelled "the REAL hockey team from
Quebec!!" which actually got some laughs from Habs fans.
I miss le fleur de lys!

More raer, for sure...but it was also necessary.

My parents wanted to disown me, but whatever. I hated Roy and the Habs and was a huge Stastny fan. When Roy left the Habs to "my" team I was forced to do the switch and not celebrate "my nordiques" championship. Sad, after all those years in the cellar.

Murray has kind of slowed down in his old age, huh? He used to be a sniper. 1000 games of wear.

And Bassie, I'm pretty much in agreement with that.

Didn't anyone see the one Ref get flying tackled by one of the players? That dude should really get in some deep shit.

coming back in time for the playoffs

    A*****************h!

I realized you addressed this thread to me and I never
even said what's up, just started jawing about the Habs!

Can't say I'm sorry to see the Leafs lose, the media were
playing it up like it was do-or-die for Toronto in this game
as far as playoffs go, but truth is their playoff hopes were at best
a long shot, while the Bruins are holding on for dear life only
2 points above the drop zone ... I hold my breath through all these
games now and have to watch the scoreboard to see if Buffalo is
losing, rooting for Carolina to beat Washington, etc ... it's too much.

I still haven't watched the brawl clip you guys are talking about
(strut at work related) but one thing I can say is that I have always
hated Roy. I've seen him make some amazing saves, and semi-rooted for
him in the Bourque-Avalanche Cup win, but his tenure with the Canadiens
made him the most hated goalie in my personal experience. I got great
pleasure from the playoff games against the Bruins in the early 90's
when he would make 40 amazing saves all night but then pass the puck
from the corner across the front of his own net right onto the stick
of an open Bruin for the game-winning goal. He could be downright comical.

When I saw the Roy JR thing, which is on TV pretty much non-stop here, I was reminded of this:

That kid got a lifetime ban from the OHL. Roy is luck to only get 7 games.

    It gets worse: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/hockey/bruins/view.bg?articleid=1082939&srvc=bruins&position=2

Not even a B's/Habs thing, more just disgusted with the
NHL and referees in particular - how can somebody crosscheck
a player hard enough to BREAK THEIR BACK and not even get a
2 minute minor penalty? Sometimes this league is a real joke.
