I'm kind of shocked that there are no films from this decade outside of Lord Of The Rings. Also shocked that they got films like "Tootsie" on the list. This is just bullshit. I generally hate ranking movies, it just doesn't make much sense to argue the merits of Citizen Kane over The Godfather or The Wizard of Oz over Raging Bull and so on. But these are a collection of great ones. I haven't seen a lot of them, time to get the netfix going.
without a doubt
however people tend to give them some merit and it also offers up something for artistic debate.
Toy Story is a great breakthrough in animation, but it don't mean shit to me as a movie
I agree. They are stupid, in ascending order of importance, because: (1) becasue it is all subjective; (2) its impossible to compare the merits of individual films; (3) its not clear what the facctors going into the calculation are, a top-grossing film, may not necessarily be a good film.
or The Producers.
Why?
Tootsie = a certified Nozclassic?
because I've seen the film and nothing about it screamed "top 100" and I can't even see what appeal it would have to anyone else to have it placed in the top 100 films of all time except those that love bad cross dressing comedies.
and even those enthusiasts would probably be more into "Precilla Queen of the Desert", or "To Wong Fu, Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar"
As much as i love Star Wars u cant tell me the acting was excellent.
Many factors determine.
Toy Story?
Yeah and apparently its about 13 points better than Do the Right Thing (no. 96!??!?)
Do the Right Thing is #96. After Jaws, Snow White, ET, African Queen and LOTR.
Well, it's pretty widely respected as one of the stronger mainstream comedies of it's time. I'm not personally in love with it, it's not high brow by any means, but as far as romantic/farcical situation comedy goes it pretty much nails the form. There are far more suspect choices on that list.
GTFOHWTBS.
Welles gets props for making a decent movie at a very young age. That's it. VG+ at best. Not even top 25.
Snow White is about as classic as movies get.
I got to agree there, in terms of it's place in film history, music, and animation quality it definitely deserves a place on a top 100 American films list
Lay off the smoke, rootless! Your judgement has been impaired!
Do you like movies?
I love movies. I also happen to think Citizen Kane is among the most COLLOSSALLY over-rated movies in history.
Let me ask this: Has anyone ever seen this movie without already having heard that it's some sort of masterpiece? I think that's where peoples judgment gets impaired.
don't get me wrong, better than 99% of the thousands of movies out there. but nowehere near my top.
List your top 10 or your soft like pillow
Well, it's a good thing your opinion is in no danger of affecting the course of film history any time soon.
lol while yours on the other hand....
These are in my top ten. I like stories and entertainment.
