got up at 5:40 a.m. and ran out the door with no breakfast. Got to the spot and instantly saw two lesbian diggers, my hated enemy huckleberry finn, my main man Ake, 1 old gruff psych rock fuzz collector, old black radd dude who is mentoring me in classical, another couple younger dudes, and a couple hip hop dudes. Seriously, this is getting out of hand. That or a lotta people are actually starting to come through this summer, damn. Went to a couple community sales and that also sucked balls. I bought one EZ disco record and died.
Umm, from what I remember from the first spot:
Hi-Gloss LP on Prelude
Donny Hathaway - Extensions of a Man (double)
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust (double)
James Brown - Ain't it funky
Kim Weston - (I forget)
and some other ish I forgot
so, after a meager haul I hollered at my main man and I peeped his storage unit. woohoo!
Ice - S/T LP (double)
Nite Liters - Different Strokes
Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense & Peppermints (double)
Seaquence - Mix Faze LP (double)
JEAHHH! and some other madness. One ben franklin well spent on 100+ LPs.
Later, my favorite newbie digger calls and buys a grip of hip hop off me (ATCQ represses, extra prolific, big daddy kane 12"s, etc) and a bunch of other stuff. Laced me with mas franklins (check for the watermark) and I have to say it was a good day. The chicken teriyaki in front of me is calling.

"Just waking up in the morning gotta thank God
I don't know but today seems kinda odd
No barking from the dogs, no smog
And momma cooked a breakfast with no hog
I got my grub on, but didn't pig out
Finally got a call from a girl wanna dig out
Hooked it up on later as I hit the do'
Thinking will i live, another twenty-fo'
I gotta go cause I got me a drop top
And if I hit the switch, I can make the ass drop
Had to stop at a red light
Looking in my mirror not a jacker in sight
And everything is alright
I got a beep from Kim and she can fuck all night
Called up the homies and I'm askin y'all
Which court, are y'all playin basketball?
Get me on the court and I'm trouble
Last week fucked around and got a triple double
Freaking niggers everyway like M.J.
I can't believe, today was a good day
Drove to the pad and hit the showers
Didn't even get no static from the cowards
Cause just yesterday them fools tried to blast me
Saw the police and they rolled right past me
No flexin, didn't even look in a niggaz direction
as I ran the intersection
Went to $hort Dog's house, they was watchin Yo! MTV Raps
What's the haps on the craps
Shake em up, shake em up, shake em up, shake em
Roll em in a circle of niggaz and watch me break em
With the seven, seven-eleven, seven-eleven
Seven even back do' Joe I picked up the cash flow
Then we played bones, and I'm yellin domino
Plus nobody I know got killed in South Central L.A.
Today was a good day Left my niggaz house paid
Picked up a girl been tryin to fuck since the twelve grade
It's ironic, I had the brew she had the chronic
The Lakers beat the Supersonics I felt on the big fat fanny
Pulled out the jammy, and killed the punanny
And my dick runs deep so deep so deep
put her ass to sleep Woke her up around one
she didn't hesitate, to call Ice Cube the top gun
Drove her to the pad and I'm coasting
Took another sip of the potion hit the three-wheel motion
I was glad everything had worked out
Dropped her ass off, then I chirped out
Today was like one of those fly dreams
Didn't even see a berry flashing those high beams
No helicopter looking for a murder
Two in the morning got the fat burger
Even saw the lights of the Goodyear Blimp
And it read Ice Cube's a pimp
Drunk as hell but no throwing up
Half way home and my pager still blowing up
Today I didn't even have to use my A.K.
I got to say it was a good day.
Hey wait, wait a minute Pooh
Stop the shit
What the fuck am I thinking about?"
Finally found a (pretty) clean OG copy of this LP for under $10...way under $10...and it is sweet!
ok, this is the second Sandy Nelson LP I have bought in as many weeks, normally a bad sign, but this record is THE SHIT! 6 minute track filled with breaks called "Freak Beat" most songs have total fuzz guitar and heavy organ....and they do a cover of ? and the Mysterians "I Need Somebody!!" Yowza!
Mint copy for $8? Yes, plaese!
That was all for today, I'm saving most of my weekend record money for the SECRET (ALMOST) ALL-RECORDS YARD SALE tomorrow, I have heard good things about this, dude supposedly puts out stacks and stacks of LP's and 45's and "finds can be had!"
And, if it's a bust, tomorrow is the quarterly local Holiday Inn record show, which I have a love/hate relationship with, as in hate the gross people, hate how 75 percent of the records (at least) were there the last time, but love how the next day I always realize I actually scored some dope music...

Hahaha, joke on me, that yard sale was a POS. I drove a good half hour to find a pile of 15 EZ records, and cases of shitty 8 Tracks (noreynaldofunkheat)...there were shelves in the open garage of LP's, I started going through and only found unwanted thriftstorecommon Herbie Mann's until dude yelled at me that "the garage records aren't for sale" and told me he sells "those better records at the flea"
ok, thanks dude, for e-mailing people about all your records for sale that don't exist. new Webster's definition of "ghey"
Anyway, hit the quarterly Holiday Inn sale, usual piles of junk, but bought one LP that I have wanted for a while:
Not out of a dollar bin, but not "overpriced" either...mine's a US OG, not UK like the jpeg.
I only really go to the Holiday Inn spot to see my main man Harv*y tha 45 guy, he always hooks it up with records that "are just a 'step' above" haha! in the 1/2 hour I spend going through his boxes, usually I hear his ballgame-hotdog-seller mantra of "everythings half price today, folks - if there's anything you can use" at least 20 times...dude is nice guy high school teacher record dealer, specializes in that doo wop/50's, and hooks up the soul & garage for nothin':
Lee Rogers - You're the Cream of the Crop - D Town
Don Covay - Temptation Was Too Strong - Atlantic
Bobby Powell - Do Something for Yourself - WHIT
Betty Lavett[/b](sic) - Shut Your Mouth - Atlantic
? & the Mysterians - Smokes - Cameo
Wilmer & the Dukes - Livin' in the USA - Aphrodesiac
Olympics - Do the Slauson Shuffle - Tri Disc
Brothers of Soul - Hurry Don't Linger - BOO
Robert Knight - We'd Better Stop - Elf
Jive Five - Blues in the Ghetto - Musicor
The Guilloteens - Hey You! - HBR*
[/b]* from a website selling it: "Memphis based gararge act, who Elvis cited once as his favourite band" Elvis the Garage Rocker! word!
Dynamics - Ain't No Love at All - Cotillion
Electric Express - It 's the Real Thing 1&2 - Lingo [/b]dope!!
Bennie Gordon & the Soul Brothers - Camel Walk - Enrica [/b]
very nice find.
[/b]* from a website selling it: "Memphis based gararge act, who Elvis cited once as his favourite band" Elvis the Garage Rocker! word!
These are pretty damn hard to find. This might be the only record that came out of my Mom's collection that was worth a damn. The flip "I Don't Believe" is probablly the most covered Memphis garage song in history. Lewis Paul told me they straight up ripped off the Kinks for "Hey You." Some asshole in Italy decided to reissue all of the Guiloteens 45s on one LP. Usually this would be cool but the band members had no idea this was going down. They came into the shop asking if we had their LP. I felt bad having to charge dudes $25 for their own music. What's funny is the LP is called "For My Own."
Maybe I'll move to Italy with my Memphis underground raers and make a fortune reissuing all of them and not give a dime to the artists. Yeah...that'd be cool.
Word, that's awesome dude admits that straight up, cause the first thing you think when you hear it is, "this is 'I Need You' by the Kinks!" It's dope on it's own, though, with hot hot guitar.
Did they say anything about Elvis sweating them??
No, but everybody around here has an Elvis story.
Ten Wheel Drive - Construction #1 LP
Black Oak Arkansas - Early Times LP (BOA on Stax? yes plaese)
Curtis Mayfield - Honesty LP (sealed)
Muddy Waters - Unk in Funk LP
Fishbone - Truth and Soul LP
Grandmaster Melle Mel & The Furios 5 - White Lines '89 Part II 12 inch
OH SNAP -- the ensemble, that is one my favorite records. Beautiful find.
