I'm putting together a stock cover feature on waxidermy. you should holler. gonna be pretty extensive...

you gonna do like I suggested and have it be a work-in-progress style so we can add records as we go?

If Ed can hook it up that way it'd be cool. Your fellow Chicagoean stock cover ethusiast is sending in 100+ scans.

    Should be

  • made the rounds this weekend- stores and mediocre record show:

    Monty Alexander- Rass! (MPS)
    Harold Ousley- the Kid (Cobblestone)
Elvin Jones- Dear John C (Impulse)
    Rotary Connection- Songs (Cadet concept)
    Blossom Dearie- Blossom Time (Fontana)
    Delfonics- s/t w/ Didn't I (Philly groove)
Johnny Nash + Kim Weston- s/t (major minor)
Lou Donaldson- Hot Dog (Blue note)
    Otis Redding- Love Man (Atlantic)
Irene Kral- Where is Love (Choice) i know this is not rare or Soulstrut-approved, but this record is so incredibly good
Clifford Brown Memorial Album- (Blue note)(blue+white liberty)
Herbie Hancock- My Point of View (BLue note)(Blue+white liberty)
Mike Manieri- Journey thru and electric Tube (Solid State)
    5 Stairsteps- s/t (Windy C)
    Zappa- Grand wazoo (Bizarre)
    Horacee Arnold- Tribe (columbia)
    Eddie Harris- Silver Cycles (Atlantic)
Richard Pryor- That N#####'s Crazy (partee)
    Joni Mitchell- Miles of Aisles
Helen Smith- Woman will do wrong 45 (Phil-LA of soul)

plus some H-rocks coming soon to a classified section near you

listing individual prices is tedious... paid 30 for Rass, everything else between $1-8.

actually, the highlight of my weekend, saturday night got to hang out backstage with Dr. Billy Taylor, Frank Wess, and members of their band/entourage. The REAL show that night was in the green room. These guys may not get love on the Strut but seriously: 'F' the hatters. Nat'l treasures. Wess and Taylor's manager have stories for days. oh my god. incredible and hilarious to just chill and take that in

K-tel comp w/ Bongo Rock and The Payback

I think it has the radio edit, but a false radio edit, a premature K-Tel edit, not the 45 edit. Now tell me about "L".

weren't you one of the mighty-mighty spade and righteous mutherfuckers riding my dick over that post? now it's your little quip. i see. you fucking cunt.

  • some frenchy records...

thanks to Midnight Cowbwoy to hipping me to this French cover of Otis' "Hard to Handle" he also does a cool French version of "tighten Up" that has more in common with the Bamboo's version than archie's, but I have yet to find that one.

not to rain on hCrink lyrical parade, but the Nino record prolly has the illest lyric of all time "you must to have long hairs and to love james brown"

Also a 45 that has me scratching my head, perhaps someone can shed some light on it...

Ann Bogus of the Fabulous Dominoes(yes, thats her name, I would scan the label but my scanner is still in a box somewhere, I just moved(hence the reason i borrowed the pics of the aforementioned records)
"you got it wrong" 45 on Statue. Now, every Statue I have heard is either country or rockabilly and also a blue label. This one is red and it is some hard hitting sister soul/funk a la Alice Clark's "You Got a Deal". So any one got the info on Ann, or perhaps The Fabulous Dominoes? Great tune, but it is only 1 minute 42 seconds long.

what? sorry I don't understand your violent outburst, could you please clarify what you are talking about sir? I believe now would be a good time to take your medication to ensure that your temper is contained for the remainder of the day.

I'm flattered that you would include a photo of me, I guess I have fans far and wide!

(note: apparently posting a short sarcastic remark about someones finds is enough to make motherfuckers LIVID up in here!)

you're making a joke about it. while my approach is obnoxious, mean or narcissistic i don't think it's a fucking joke. not funny and i'm checking you. take note and wobble away.

btw--your website looks like a digital hemorrhoid.
