Seriously, I challenge anyone to listen to at least 4/5ths of those above albums and make it through even half the songs without being bored to tears. This is coming from someone who actually really LOVED hip-hop during that era but as time goes by, a lot of that shit just doesn't age well..

Go back to that OGC its great. I could be biased though, I was all about boot camp for years until that "For the people" mess came out.

Off that list though, the PRT was, in my opinion, rather slept-on and as I get older, I find that "The Main Ingredient's" best cuts are more listenable to me than most of "Mecca and the Soul Brother" though there was also some syrupy bullshit on "The Main Ingredient" too.
The Main Ingredient is still a dope album. The "commercial" type efforts were bammer but there is plenty of heat on it. CL has never been good but who cares with those beats. The rest of that list besides OC never really got much run from me. All those groups had dope songs but the albums weren't really saying it. Kurious's whole album started with a upright bass and some echo horns on damn near every song!!
main ingredient boring...woah..what on earth were you thinking while you typed that???

I agree on a lot of songs CL is just corny man.

Big Stacks, a grown and sexy man like yourself wouldn't be caught dead listening to a terd like "That's Them" would you?
Hey JP,
Honestly, it's mainly the production on there that makes me listen still. Tame One and the Sensai are bargain basement MCs lyrically though.

I've never been a friend of grading quality of Albums like that. Are we grading mathexams? No, this is music. To me this has ALOT more to do with how you feel when you play the album. Reviewing LPs sure does require going more in detail listening to the tracks one by one, but this looks like some score : 7 out of 16 ish. Some ppl are stuck on source grading(no offense),... and there's always a way to give someone 5 mics.

going by this, the album has 8-9 decent/solid tracks. so what's so bad about it? i'll have to think about the last time i bought a new rap album and had that many worthy tracks on it

WOW?!?!?!
I'm actually really shocked that people would hate on that list.
I'd really like to see what their list would consist of?
Next they'll probably say KRS ONE - Return of the Boom Bap was boring.
There's a long distance b/t "Return of the Boom Bap" and "Constipdated Monkey" or "That's Them." The two don't belong in the same conversation with one another even if they happened to come out with the same time frame.
And let me also second that I've always found O.C. to be an MC who people either really like or really don't. Personally, I think he's way overrated and that album never moved me. I also thought "Times Up" was just "so-so" and never got why people went ga-ga over it. But hey, that's me.

Some other gems from that time would have to be

I'm not trying to compare those other albums to Return of the Boom Bap. Because you're right their is a long distance between those albums.
All I'm saying is those albums were real dope and to say they weren't I wouldn't be surprised if you hated on Return of the Boom Bap as well. Which again is superior to those other albums.
