Both of these are a bit strange and not for the queasy ...
The first one I have not seen, ,,, but it was so bizarre, I had to post...
and The second one made me so angry after watching it... ... and then so incredibly sad, ....
I broke down and was sobbing. Extremely Heavy.
watched that 'note for note' joint on Netflix where they go inside the Steinway piano company and follow the creation of a 9ft concert grand from start to finish, and profiles the people who make it.
Follows a group of Danish soliders (some likeable, some very unlikeable) on their first tour in Afghanistan. The filmmakers are literally on the front lines of battle.
The scenes where they actually get caught up in a ground battle and the subsequent "liquidisations" were genuinely shocking. Can certainly see why those scenes caused an uproar in Denmark.
Thought the film was a great example of how you can say as much through the editing as through a subjective narrated commentary.

That's a great point. The movie could have been very familiar given how many documentaries and non-docs there are on this topic, but the editing gives you a more visceral idea of how uneventful yet intense it can be.

I'm glad I saw this, but I recommend it with series caveats. I don't know that I "liked" it per se.
That said, the final scene/song where the guy explains where the name of the movie is derived is one of my favorite things I've seen on camera in a long, long time.
This is about Obama's half-sister from Kenya. She studied in Germany and developed an interesting perspective on development. The film doesn't go into her ideas or work too much, but it paints a really interesting picture of her influences and character, and you can't help compare and contrast with Barack as a politician.
I didn't love the style at first (seemed amateurish), but it grew on me by the end.
There's also some fascinating footage of Barack when he visted Kenya in his younger days!

Saw a rough draft of "We Like It Like That - The Story of Latin Boogaloo" last week. It's a piece by a young New Yorker that's still in production. He's hoping to have it completed in time for next year's film fest circuit. Definitely worth checking out. PS. Your boy mannybolone gets some shine in the doc.
For fans of pro wrestling WCW / WWF days. Pretty much a true-life version of "The Wrestler" (Mickey Rourke) by way of Scott Hall who played the latin machismo, bad guy role of Razor Ramon.
Don't know if people outside the UK can watch this, but it's another BBC masterpiece with ol' David Attenborough. The orcas hunting seals was mind-boggling, but the scale of the arctic and antarctic wilderness is the main draw.
Well worth the liscence fee.

Saw the BBC4 documentary on British Heavy Metal. As someone who has watched quite a few "history of metal" documentaries, this one is the best. Gets fairly deep, and the interview subjects talk about things they want to talk about, not hammered to death points they usually are asked to talk about...Ian Gillan talking about Brook Benton for example...good stuff. Recommended.
