Just watched The Magnificent Seven on TCM. I've never really watched any of these old westerns. I liked the movie it was good. The TV gave it four stars. I don't think I found it to be 4 stars but very very good.

Yes i'm aware of this film,i was reading the story of how a pristine print of it was unearthed off of a Chinese tubesite.
And dudes from a certain site that will stay unmentioned subbed it, i haven't seen it yet though.
Haz needs to bless us with his presence and some recommendations as well.
The second one's pretty much a reimagining of the first one but that didn't affect my enjoyment of it plus it had the bonus of a young Craig T Nelson in the mix.
Pretty strange films all in all, love the blending of "modern" day setting with the groovy guys and gals and Count Yorga himself who looks and acts like he stepped out a classic period Hammer movie. Surprisingly intentionally funny in parts and also some genuine creepy moments helped by the hand held camera style and the tendency to play down a lot of the scenes with no emphasis on dramatic orchestral themes etc. Can certainly see how they've developed a cult following.
And i also watched A Taste Of Cold Steel where again Tarantino borrows from the scene in which a one eyed, eye patch wearing Ku Feng loses the sight in his one good eye and commences to trash the place around him looking for his adversary.
The eye patch Elle Driver wears is a direct reference to Thriller:A Cruel Picture. Tarantino had Daryl Hannah watch the movie before Kill Bill went into production. She told Tarantino: "You made me watch a porno". To which he replied: "Yeah, but its a good porno".

Fantastic film too-often overshadowed by Hal Ashby's other (equally great) films in his unbroken streak of straight classics in the 70s. Talking about giving Altman a run for his money:

Been saving this one in my recent reappraisal of Norris (lack of new Seagal related) and it was worth the wait. Chuck, blowing people up with a rocket launcher, Chuck saving a busload of children, Chuck taking out a whole army with just his two guns, Chuck wrestling gators, Chuck beating the evil commies with only a scratch. All set at christmas time.

Rostov : [wakes up in a cold sweat] he's not dead we have to kill him (or something to that effect)
I remember a friend of mine back in the days recounting to me how awesome this flick was before i'd seen it
I thought he was putting me on but he wasn't.
Ha! Yep that's the one. I'm well aware that far two often bad movies have a so bad it's good tag attached to them but this really is a worthy recipient of the award. So over the top it defies belief.
After also rewatching Braddock: Missing in Action III the other day I was struck again by how casually brutal these films really are. Take, for example, the way in MIA III he finds his presumed dead wife and son are alive and five minutes later sees her executed and his child set up in a fairly ingenious torture game where if Chuck puts his feet on the ground his son's head is blown off with a shotgun. Or in Invasion USA where he slams the coke snorting women's head on the table so the straw goes up her nose, pulls open the top of the guy's trousers and shoots him in the groin, then throws the woman out the window for good measure. LIke to see LeBeouf take that on.
This is like the precursor to the movie Heat done by the same director they both have similar themes.
Ex-Con/master thief willing to drop everything in his life when the circumstances arise.
I actually prefer this to Heat.
Caught this on cable recently, fun film the train stunts were awesome.
Hobos stow away on a train all the while trying to avoid detection from the extremely sadistic conductor.
sounds simple but the hairy situations that occur make it a totally nail biting affair.
This is like the precursor to the movie Heat done by the same director they both have similar themes.

Yep same here which always gets me accused of film elitism by friends but I much prefer Mann's early work. You seen LA Takedown - his first attempt at Heat (same story, much smaller budget)? Also prefer that to Heat.

I watched this with my Dad while he was recovering from food poisoning this morning. I didn't expect a war-themed morality drama to be this concise (standard 90-minute length), but it sure packed a punch.

I really enjoyed this, great cast. I spent a better part of the last month at the hospital with my wife and this didn't seem too far off.
