or the sophmore album being good period to YOU. I think an artist that can live up to the hype after a solid debut album, must have some talent. Id like to see albums in all genres, so mention away

here's a few for me

^not better than the debut, but a great effort nonetheless

^if you don't count "posse" as a debut

    fugees "the score"

Eh, I like the first one better. But it's all taste.

While the 1st PE is great their is no doubt that Nation of Millions took it to a whole nuther level.

although you could argue this is a first album cause it has older songs...we're not counting EPs right?

  • Here's some that I dig:
Beck - Odelay! > Beck - Mellow Gold
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique > Beastie Boys - Licensed To Ill
The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan > Bob Dylan

    fuck yeah. who knew?
...and i think odelay was beck's 4th or 5th(!) grimeyryan. but as far as major labels go, you'd be right i guess.

the argument about supreme v. ironman could be a thread in and of itself.

    (I'm an ironman guy)

  • I think A Tribe Called Quests - Low End Theory wins the award. No?

that would be an interesting discussion...what it is for me though is that wu was still at its peak when ironman came out with so much good material and then they dwindled off and clientelle came out of nowhere and was a really different sound...but both solid albums

oh and i dont know if this considered the second or third (if architecture isnt considered the first)

The debuts were pretty damn good, BUT...

And a lot of people don't even count their 1st album, but they DID have an album before this...

    I said it.

  • His debut sucked but this is a gem:

    I said it.

No way. This one has 3 1/2 good songs on it - Paid In Full has a solid 5 if not 6!

alright check this out - me being the true microphone master that I am - It's just the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat the beat

  • This wasn't as good as this

which wasn't as good as this

I may be alone on this, but I just enjoyed this album waaaaaaaay more. Even though "MATSB" had the tighter singles, "Main Ingredient" seems like a better album.

Just on the off chance that they would fit this bill I checked in on the Beatles.

I think that this (1st LP):

Is better than their sophmore effort:

But then they came back with these four titles. A pretty decent 2 year output in anybody's book:

The only ones that come to mind are:

    Bush Babees "Gravity"
and I'll put Dilated's "Expansion Team" over "The Platform" any day...

    Other notable sophmore albums:

Ed OG - Roxbury 02119 (Very slept on also)
Pharcyde - Labcabincalifornia (they matured - well kinda!)
Snoop - Doggfather (It's not DoggyStyle, but I still liked this lp)
    Outkast - ATLiens

Here's two that may or may not be added to this list:

Little Brother & Kanye both dropping sophmore lp's soon.....

    Did anyone mention this yet?

It's interesting that most Beatles folks (myself included) don't rate "Beatles For Sale" too highly. That, along with "Let It Be," are their 2 weakest LPs IMO.
