I do think most people are taking this as just an update of the old "post your mug" thread. I doubt this will actually change anything, but whatever, someday someone corny will get called out for not posting, and that'll be that.
i'm really surprised at how people are just capitulating without at least expressing whether they concur with your theory that this detoxifies the spot or not.
I said my piece on the theory earlier but will also say that "post your now mug" is one of the Board's best-attended threads, SStrutters love seeing themselves and each other, which is understandable.

it is on some gated community shit. i am on my way to the airport but honestly this facebook sausage fest is not a worthy shield against jack shit, i have posted my picture in threads, helped get gigs for people, bought and sold records and instruments, and have had strutters come take photos of my collection and at parties and have put strutters into commercials, put them up at my house, real shit. i have relationships with people here that predate the internet age let alone the age of me being on here. this is a really great place for many reasons for real, but it's a mere speck on the map of my life with records/dj-ing etc. i know tons of people here irl and have forever, i was in sunday school since 3rd grade with Vitamins little sister, i grew up w Cosmo and Tripledouble is my dear old friend, i even dated a ss-er. i don't think this is going to make this a more record related place or a better board. i don't whine about having to wade through porn crap or threads about elementary shit that i already know. i even received a series of lewd messages from someone here unfortunately a while ago. i don't care, live life, just ignore it and keep marching. i'm really surprised at how people are just capitulating without at least expressing whether they concur with your theory that this detoxifies the spot or not. wouldn't it be better to just make good threads and be part of helping it to flow in the direction you want.

I'm started this thread because this sentiment that the board needs a little cleaning comes from personally meeting with mad strutters on all four corners of the US and I thought i would bring it up. You say you received creepy pm's, wouldn't this be a good way to avoid that? to have people accountable with their face? I've had the same thing and i want to know the look on someone's face when I read their statements. Think of all the guests who view this board and take the opinions of say Dr Manhattin and Kala with the same weight? Is that really what we need the strut repped as?
Anyone else with a problem speak up now or don't say shit about how the strut "isn't the same anymore" in the future. Also, and i mean this sincerely AK and to anyone else, if you have a better idea, post it.

if I understand correctly, the purpose of this thread is to minimize the # of people who will take net beef to some "i'm going to get in my Buick and drive all night to Kansas and smash your face" level. which rarely happens here, and people who will act that way are probably unlikely to post their photos, but whatever -- I get the sentiment. and I agree that once the photos are out there, people might be less likely to talk shit.
in any case, bassie is one of the warmest, least shit-talking people here and I think everyone gets that.

There is no ONE idea that's gonna magically revive the board to whatever era you hold on to.
1. Lets acknowledge that there a bunch of good reasons people might not want to post pictures of themselves on a message board. I can think of a few reasons: sexual harassment, immigration status, legal difficulties, and of course the possibility that someone might want to engage in goofy discussions without their real name or facing being used.
2. Several of the posters are already famous. I've got the elemental w/PUTS mugs -- I knew what you looked like. In some ways you are already comfortable with public exposure because of your career choice. Some others might prefer a different level. Some of those people might be on the internet.
3. I can easily imagine that these images can be as much of an exclusionary tool as an invitation to community. In some ways people who haven't shown y'all veterans some music knowledge or taste might want to hold back on what might be perceived as cheap self-promotion. This applies to Stein's series of nrr questions too. Not to mention the photoshop options and the deterrence of a troll who can respond by manipulating yer image.
