Quote:/font1h,121b,121I'm glad that they are spending money to advertise on soulstrut, a place where nobody would actually vote yes on 8. So yeah, keep those ads coming. b, 21b, 21h,121
I saw a guy holding a no on prop 8 sign in my neighborhood (Weho). Talk about preaching to the choir. I bet he feels like he did his part. img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt=""1/1
Yeah we were in hillcrest the other day, which is the gay neigborhood and all these people were waving no on 8 signs and people were honking... they might as well have gone to little italy with "yes on pasta!" signs....
Quote:/font1h,121b,121In any case, I haven't seen indications that this is anywhere close to getting the 60% support it needs to pass. b, 21b, 21h,121
font class="post"1b,121b,121Really? Maybe it's just cuz I live in conservative San Diego, but I've just seen too many Yes on 8 bumperstickers and yard signs around here (and not that many No on 8 stuff). It's really sickening.

font class="post"1b,121Prop 8 only needs a simple majority, and it's close. You'd think we'd have a higher standard for amending our constitution, but there you go.
Depends on your neighborhood. I live in the city and there aren't very many yes on 8 signs to be found.b,121b,121b,121mostly the mexicans have them up because they are catholic, or something like that.b,121b,121when i see them i want to smash something though.
It doesn't have a constitutional leg to stand on anyways, so I'm actually not that worried. There is no way that shit would stand up in court.

But it just dawned on me what is going on here. Changing the constition makes it constitutional. OING. Still there has to be some way to challenge it right? U.S. Supreme Court?

I work in Pacifica and the road I take to work has yes on 8 signs all over it. Then, on the way home tonight, I hit the intersection of Westborough and El Camino Real in South SF and there were at least 30 yes on 8 people holding up signs on all four corners. People were honking at them a lot. I couldn't tell if they were supporting them or giving them F*ck you honks.
The donor list and amount of money they have raised is unreal.b,121b,121I have a bad gut feeling about this one. Curious to see how new voters voting for Obama vote on this one, I suspect a surprising number of them are yes on 8 voters.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Unfortunately, people of color historically vote AGAINST gay marriage. Ironic but there it is. b, 21b, 21The measure is still polling negative but we'll see what plays out tomorrow. b, 21b, 21As I keep saying though: it won't really matter in the long-term. This shit is going to hit the courts so fast, you'll forget there was a proposition.

Steve Young's wife is down with the no vote (to the tune of $50K in donations as well), and she's the mother of Brigham Young's great-great-great-great-grandchildren.b, 21b,121 img src="http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/1590/picture3yl1.png"1 b, 21b, 21The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is trying awfully hard to define marriage as one man and one woman[/b]. Overcompensating, anyone?

font class="post"1b,121b,121that's why prop 22 was revoked, it wasn't constitutional. as a result prop 8 is an attempt to amend the constitution to get around that shit. b, 21b, 21the whole this isn't discrimination it's about protecting marriage is such a f*cking crock of shit. People are being denied a right afforded to them by the state constitution based on their sexual orientation. What the F*ck?! b, 21b, 21Civil unions are just a bullshit attempt at installing a "separate but equal" system of crap.
"Civil unions are just a bullshit attempt at installing a "separate but equal" system of crap."b,121b,121Well, personally, if you have civil unions resemble marriage rights in everything but name, that's considerably more than "separate but equal." The latter phrase - as associated with school segregation - has become infamous precisely because things were NOT equal and could be shown to be wholly unequal. Something like civil unions is a different story so long as the rights granted are identical.b, 21b,121Of course, that's why anti-gay marriage types don't like civil unions either. They want male/female marriages to have a special status that cannot be confused with anything. b, 21b, 21They want separate AND unequal. b,121b,121I just can't see this shit flying. Even if Prop 8 wins tomorrow, it won't be long before that shit is torn down and shat upon and in the near future, we'll be looking back on this like we did with anti-miscegenation bans, wondering how we were ever so ignorant and intolerant as a society.b, 21b,121Of course, in that possible future, we won't be caring about gay marriage because we'll be too busy trying to deport folks. b, 21b, 21img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/oof.gif" alt="" 21b, 21b, 21For real, watch immigration come screaming back to the forefront of politics in the next few.
i'm just curious, why do yes on prop 8 people feel strongly enough about it to actually go outside with signs and stand on the side of the road ? I could understand someone not wanting it to pass, feeling very strongly about it...but how good could you feel if it passes ? Bullshit...b, 21b, 21Is it all economically rooted ?
