Some trash hauls recently (dude was walking out to the curb with a bag of records while I was walking to the record store with some trades, which were curbside finds from the night before):
    Secret Oyster--Sea Son
    Fripp and Eno--No Pussyfooting.

  • Mary Jane Hooper - I've Got Reasons - 2 bucks...

  • most of my 45 collection is under 3 bucks, but in the last month the notables have been: Lee Moses "Bad Girl" 1 buck
Mighty Hannibal "Get a Groove" 50 cents
5 Royales "They Dont Know" 50 cents

I got Mc Donald and Giles for free from an exgirlfriend's hippie neighbor. That one probably ranks highest in my collectron since it's such incredible music.

I once jumped over my fence to rifle through a neighbour's dustbin, and pulled out a copy of Tony Joe White "Black & White". Cover was a little fusked, but it was free.

  • recreation of the gods three times for under three dollars

The first 3 that came to mind are:
    - "Headless Heroes Of The Apocalypse" for 50 cent
    - John Minnis "Big Bone Band" for a dollar
    - "Harlem River Drive" for a dollar

  • A few off the top of my head -

    Gandalf - S/T
    V/A - Discovery Club
    Majic Ship - S/T
    The Yankee Dollar - S/T
The Larry Page Orchestra - Kinky Music
    Trifle - First Meeting
    Bobby Williams - Funky Superfly
    Bossa Tres - Em Forma!
    Steve Reid - Nova

    Hundreds more over the years.

  • I watched a friend of mine pull out a 45 a Rusty Bryant- Fireeater for a dollar. I was diggin through the same seemingly small stash of 45's and was amazed when I saw him find that buried amongst a handfull of other prestige 45's.

I gotta get back to this thread later today...I'm probably the king of budget-minded crate-digging, and I wanna make sure I don't mention the same records I listed the last time this thread came through Soul Strut...

I once found a Rusty Bryant Fire Eater LP for the same price. It was at a now-gone store that was so particular about condition, that they used to have some amazing deals in their cheap bin just because the record wasn't 100% pristine. Other records I remember getting at the same shop, all in the dollar range (and mostly LP's except where noted):

    Ritchie Valens (self-titled on Del-Fi)
a Ruth Brown EP on Atlantic
Leon Spencer's Sneak Preview on Prestige
James Brown's I Got You (I Feel Good) on King
Melvin Sparks' Spark Plug on Prestige
Irma Thomas - Take A Look on Imperial
    Stooges - Fun House
Shirley & Lee - Let The Good Times Roll on Imperial
All three albums by SRC (between the three, there were enough good songs for one, but better I got 'um cheap)
Third Power's album on Vanguard (Detroit power trio ca. 1970, WAY better than SRC)
Pink Floyd's self-titled elpee on Tower (a/k/a Piper At The Gates Of Dawn)

It seems like 45 collectros build their collections on sub $3 pick ups. I know most of my collection came that way. In the 90s dealers just didn't get the 45 thing unless it was a crust related pic sleeve or early rock and roll.

Finding great LPs for under $3 is a lot more impressive because even Tapestry can be sold for $2.

  • hard to choose but right now i'm feeling the Steve Davis Music album that i found when the local radio station was clearing out some old wax.

You American lads have it too good... up here in Canaduh we flip if we score a Fatback album for under 15$... let alone finding one ANYWHERE other then at Aki's. That said I did find a nice ESG says Dance 12" for a buck on the weekend.

Word. Whenever I end up splurging for a $10 to $20 record, it almost always pales in comparison to anything I've found for $1.
