The library dudes have yet to make their case that library records are a gold mine of great music. I don't doubt that they could be but dudes need to start putting together definitive lists and comps and what have you. No funky stuff, though--that's too easy, superficially appealing, and ultimately unsatisfying.

font class="post"1b,121b,121What he said. Good libraries are few, but when good, they are real good, or involve one REALLY good track. I got into librariez real late in the game, and I'm mad picky about what I buy, but some can be phenomenal. I've liked:b,121Colours of Rhythm 5b,121KPM Drama (good for the majority of the record)b,121KPM Piano Viberations (one really great track)b,121I've liked a lotta French and Italian libraries I've heard, but they always go for too much loot.b,121Some can be really good spins, but since they are often themed, they can also be very corny, and I think this theme thing is the best and worst aspect of library music creation.

As a resident of a country not known for it's prolific amount of hidden stacks of soul and funk, library records offered another means of finding breaks yo etc back in the day. However I would be forced to admit that I could probably count the amount that weren't one or two trackers on the fingers of one hand.

  • I don't think i'm "collecting library records"b,121b,121I'm collecting the discogs of Parker, Moorhouse, Umiliani, Bennett, Porte, Pearson, Dankworth, Hawkshaw and so on and so onb,121b,121less about the library. more about the music.

i dont collect library records, but some of them aint that bad. b,121i must admit that i mainly buy stuff like "underwater vol2" just for sampling reasons. and no - no breakbeats on there. just weird synth shit.

  • youd have to be retarded (Wasssupnate!!!!!) to diss a whole category of music. id be buying more libraries if i saw them cheap. i got mad jaz, rock, soul with just one good cut, or half a good cut....so a library record with a thorough song like scrabble, softwind or shady blues (all turned in to bangin hiphop too) definitely gets listened to around here and gets love. b,121b,121ive never heard either of the afrorock joints , but id love to.b,121b,121yall need to img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puto-new.gif" alt="" 21

  • I've got mostly Italian libraries and soundtracks. I just want to tell you my interest into them has raised up because this is music for pictures, "cinematic" music and there is no difference between a library or a soundtrack from this point of view. Many times covers are really cool too as to graphics btw. It's a kind of obscure and mysterious world and the experience of discovering it is pretty exciting! Music is surprisingly various, it may be bossa, lounge, dark electronics, industrial abstract sounds, furiously funky and killer and refinedly soul with wonderful wordless vocals, also psychedelic!b,121Some pictures can inspire your curiosityb,121b,121b,121img src="http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc98/fraykerbreaks/suonando.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/2526/dickyoliveroj6.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://www.italiansoundtracks.com/images/400/beatmacchina.gif"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/7623/vacanzehm2.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i33.tinypic.com/2s0zbps.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://www.italiansoundtracks.com/images/400/cinevoxgaslini2.gif"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://www.popsike.com/pix/20070723/220133507354.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i17.tinypic.com/2n71f6e.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/608/loradelcocktailtk2.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k15/davesrecords55/aa1009.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i30.tinypic.com/1znpd1u.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://www.popsike.com/pix/20050720/4749973472.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k15/davesrecords55/nwt2003.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i26.tinypic.com/2hdqv80.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i26.tinypic.com/2v35u9w.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i26.tinypic.com/2v9zvp5.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/3494/easylisteninggroupfc5.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i25.tinypic.com/2qmqj51.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i30.tinypic.com/21b907a.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/1097/frontcoverto8.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i10.tinypic.com/63caff5.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://www.popsike.com/pix/20061024/190044438369.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/2109/thepsychegroundgroupfrozq5.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://www.popsike.com/pix/20071004/330172974004.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k15/davesrecords55/flp110.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i20.tinypic.com/332xlaf.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://www.popsike.com/pix/20060331/4858517070.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i15.tinypic.com/5zqdz42.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i14.tinypic.com/62ia54k.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/MoogMan/relax-1.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://i18.tinypic.com/49j0m6r.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/2859/montecarlosm5001az0.jpg"1b, 21b, 21img src="http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/9871/cometaviolencepw7.gif"1

Please send all of those to me. I'll pay for the postage from Italy.

  • img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/funnypost.gif" alt="" /1 Not so lucky to have got all of them, only a very few of them, bro'. Basically this is another big problem: the super rarity of this stuff. Most of the master audio reels are lost or over-recorded. This is my answer to a guy asking me if I have ever found the soudtrack of the Italian poliziottesco "Roma a mano armata" by Franco Micalizzi.b, 21b, 21"If you look at the starting titles of the movie, you'll see this score has been issued on edizioni musicali Clitumno. Well, as a collector of Italian libraries and soundtracks of 60s-70s-80s, I NEVER found this release.b, 21b, 21img src="http://i36.tinypic.com/2mdjxb8.jpg"1b, 21b, 21Obviously you understand this was maybe a micro press for a promo or a very very few number of copies, whose potential owner should get a lost huge treasure for vinyls market today for sure.b, 21Moreover, my guess is that some tracks, taken from this score, have been reissued onto other soundtracks for other movies by Umberto Lenzi. For example, now we know that at least three tracks have been comped from "Roma a mano armata" into today poliziotteschi CD compilations such as "Piombo rovente", etc.b, 21These tracks are "Tensione notturna", "Affanno" and "Roma a mano" armata for sure. Also "Il cinico, l'infame e il violento" AKA "Violence" OST has a particular story. This score has been issued by Cometa label without consulting Micalizzi and using tracks from other scores by the composer, such as "Affanno" by the way, the last track, taken directly from "Roma a mano armata".b,121Filippo De Masi, maestro Francesco De Masi's son, on Beat records forum wrote his father kept not more than 50 audio reels of his soundtrack music and the remaining ones are lost forever because the problem is that such kind of music wasn't considered so worthy at that past time. One of the most important Italian catalogue, the National music one, has been totally lost because the old patron of Nazional music, in order to save his money, has used the impressed audio reels of the previous movie again to overwrite it with the music of the following one. That's the reason why 1000 scores about, whose catalogue has been actually recorded, cannot be pressed on vinyl, except the lucky cases when the author kept a copy of his music. Moreover, that infamous boss of National music catalogue sold not for cheap those audio reels to their authors, so the musicians weren't always ready to spend a lot of money to buy their own music... This is the real condition of one of the most important catalogue and now we can understand how hard is the research of these lost treasures into dusty old underground archives, sometimes audio technicians of that period come and bring to light unknown recordings...You know, hope is the last thing to die, so recently I've found that "Innerspace", a super rare score by the great Sven Libaek has been reissued using an "old" 70s original vinyl as a matrixb,121/font1
Quote:/font1h,121b,121The original Inner Space master tapes are long gone. Presumably lost or perhaps destroyed. Because of this the transfer is taken directly from a vinyl copy. It has been carefully restored and enhanced by one of Melbourne's top mastering engineers and sounds fantasticb, 21b, 21h,121
font class="post"1b,121This technology, when more available and accessible as to costs, will be able to reissue all the records / soundtracks / libraries whose original reels have been destroyed / lost".b, 21b, 212 The Non:b,121PM me if you wish some snippets.
