According to the guy who told me about this single, it was most likely recorded during the same session as the Lp I posted, but both sides of the single are only on this 45. The artwork on the label is the same as the LP but in a different colour, and it's from the same year. The single is a bit more rocky than the allbum though, but it still has that same DIY vibe in the music and singing. And it's beyond raer.

All from Saturday's record sale down here in Santa Cruz. Was there mostly to organize the event and sell, but copped some nice stuff as well:

    Dope.

    Kinda cool. Not keepin' em.

    Cheap.

    All winners.

a few bits from set sales / trades...

the BLACK MERDA isn't as great as i'd hoped - but "cynthy-ruth" is well worth the price of the LP - killer tune. the MONK MONTGOMERY isn't totally my cup of tea - -but both the "fuselage" tracks are very heavy fuzz-bass + breakbeat funky jazz. cheers Ant for the SOUND OF FEELING - really enjoying this... especially the track "along came sam"

Great, so the guy who beat me out of buying those
2 records from the set sale doesn't even like them.

    Aardvark is a great LP.

Been playing mine alot lately, at least side one.

Side 2 gets a little lost.

Nathaniel Mayer > Grope's entire collection.

    haha probably

The record is straight up soul, bordering on doo wop but sounds like early James Brown/Little Richard at times. Goes well with that Incredibles LP I just found a nice copy of on Stax. Def nice stuff.

This Ray Bryant is a nice but underrated LP. I like the Sue label in general.

Cynthy Ruth is superb but no love for tunes like The Prophet and, a personal favourite, Good Luck? Would recommend giving it a good few listens.

  • got this one too but i think the album cover is much better than the content...
