  • I'd love to get a 66 Nova SS. One of the best looking cars ever made IMO. Not for $3000 though.

I used to own a 93 Camaro Z28. Loved that car and I pimped it out. Everything short of actual internal engine work (cams, camshaft, etc.). I would love to get one of those again. I learned my lesson though. Muscle cars cost money. Money which can be spent elsewhere on more important things.

  • I really like the old FJ60 Land Cruisers- '84, '85

Saying that though, anyone know anything bout the new FJ Cruisers?

Those are great. Esp. #3 & 6 Can you actually find cars like that very easily?
For sports cars I've always been partial to this:

  • In case you missed my reply to your post in the I hate women thread...

This is my Datsun 1977 280Z. Great car, Original parts and engine, still runs great, very low maintenance car and the insurance is bound to be cheap since it's considered a classic. Also, it's still easy to find replacement parts for it because Nissan bought out Datsun right around this time.

The other cars you pictured are beautiful as well. Keep in mind the cost and level of difficulty in finding a qualified mechanic to work on some of these imports and replacement parts. Even though you may score a classic BMW for cheap, it'll cost you in the long run.

You can't go wrong with a Volswagen. They are built to to last, low maintenance (except for certain models that are infamous for having electrical problems) and are a sound investment. Their resale value either goes up or stays in the same price range. My next car will be a VW bus, squareback or a classic bug. Love those cars...

regarding #3, a guy down the street from my parents house actually has a VW fastback like that sitting behind his barn, rotting away. i really wanna get it and see how bad it really is. as far as the Ro80...no. no way im gonna find one of those in america, and especially not for $3000. but i can dream!

definitely, volkswagen is at the top of my list as far as availability, reliability, and cost. a guy in town had a type III station wagon that nobody seemed to wanna buy...rusted to shit but i was definitely considering it for $500....

yeah, my car was a '95 Passat with 280,000+ miles on it, still ran great and the resale value is still in the $3-6000 range. great company, great cars.

id love a bug. aside from the frame, you can still buy every single part brand new.

  • This would go on the "impractical" list I'm sure, but 1960s Saabs were pretty funky:

    1960 Saab 93F GT 750

funny thing is, they kept a similar body style into the 80s! here is a 1979 Saab 96:

I'm not into cars and I don't even drive, but if I ever have the proper money,
    I'd buy one of this:

Porsche Targa 77, my wet dream as a teen.

    Peace

For $3,000 I'd buy a VW bug. I'm actually thinking about buying a second one right now. VW's are so easy and cheap to maintain. Get the John Muir "guide to keep your VW alive" and you can learn to do everything yourself.

LOL! I was just posting this cause I really like this car. $3,000.00 would maybe buy a set of tires for this. If I win the lotto, I will be rolling the CL65.

there was a '66 bug in perfect shape for exactly $3000 on my local craigslist not long ago. probably still there, but i know at least $1000 of this money needs to go elsewhere, so realistically my budget is more in the $2000 range.

its a shame...there used to be a repair shop devoted to beetles in my hometown, huge beetle/bus graveyard in the back, always had really nice ones out front for cheap, but it closed up shop a couple years ago. oh well, hopefully i'll run into a nice running one for $2000 or something. my dad has an almost perfect blue '77 carbriolet bug, and he used to have a red '66, but it needed a complete restoration and he sold it for $500.

You could still find a bug in the $2000 range, or even cheaper. It won't be pretty but it'll get you around.

That BMW is the only tolerable car in there. Why don't you get a precious-looking Vespa while you're at it?

Those Nissan Zs are hilarious! A poor man's Porsche. They're dirt cheap for a reason.

    The '66 Nova is nice. I'd take a '68 or '69 first.

  • Ako- what model/year is this beamer? I've seen some cool beater 2002s and the bigger 6-series of this era, but never this model.

the early 2002s are really cool also because m3 parts up through the eighties will bolt right on (motors, susp, etc.)

  • Why not buy a more modern car with better performance?

  • Why not buy a more modern econobox with really ugly lines & no style?

    that's the 2000 cs

its a 2000CS. not sure if they were sold in america, due to those headlights. all headlights in america were sealed-beam up until the mid-80s, so thats why the front-end styling was shitty while europe was making great strides. we were limited in what we could do.

i'd love to have a 2002, there are two (maybe 3) in my town that people are using as everyday drivers. im jealous.
