in the pantheon of elite hip-hop producers? Is the green-eyed bandit up there with the gods Primo and Pete Rock?Or is he mediocre at best?I know he overutilizes Zapp and funk samples, but "Crossover" and Redman's "Time 4 Sum Akshun" are classic singles.

Not in the top 10 but maybe top 50.

  • i wouldn't put him on the same level with premo and all them but dude has classics for days and is a great producer in his own right. maybe one notch down from the greatest of the greats?

  • the title of this thread is somewhat ironically worded if you believe the rumors of his days of depression.

I think he's a great producer and has more than his fair share of hits/classics, but maybe his over-use of things tainted his overall rep.

I doubt you could name 50 hiphop producers.

Whilst as a producer I don't see him as top 10, So Watcha Sayin' is one of the 10 greatest hip hop beats ever.

Well, at least in my humble opinion.

Id say his influence is equal to his output.

Instead of this shit becoming a brag fest, why not look at that list and see if u can place 50/35/25/15/10 dudes ahead of EEE.

  • I remember hearing E on the radio in SF back in '96 saying he was one of the top 3 producers ever, along with George Clinton and Dr. Dre.

That Zapp sample left a BIG ass mark in Hip Hop.

Remember E-Double also did this joint.

no doubt, but once dude starts taking the comparison out of the realm merely of hip-hop, his status is definitely dilluted CONSIDERABLY.

IMO Erick Sermon doesn't get the credit he deserves...especially when craftiness and innovation aren't always the primary factors to consider when judging a quality producer. Look at jam-ability alone and the Green Eyed Bandit has got to be ranked among the best to ever do it.
