you should bring a shovel. if your campground isnt level, you'll have to dig it out

depends on where you're going... running water? lake? river? desert? etc.
    bring lots of bottled water.
knife (not some swiss army shit, something that could skin an elephant.)
    bug repellant
more pants/socks/shorts etc. than you think you'll need.
a couple pairs of shoes that you don't care about.
small propane camp stoves are helpful if you've got one.
food that will stay good in a cooler.
i like to bring someone camping that has a motorcycle. so do that if you know someone with a motorcycle.
    tequila. you'll definitely need tequila.

    hehehehe.

but for real.... on B Grylls. If he stays in a hotel - all good. Dude drinks moisture from elephant shit and turtles blood. he's good in my book.

any turtles or elephants where you're going?

  • That's not camping!

The point of camping is to get away from it all, not bring it all with you.

i camp quite a bit and i can't live without:
a pad for beneath my sleeping bag
    three lights
    tarp/footprint
raisin bread for raisin toast over the fire!
    matches
    alcohol
    extra clothes

  • bull_oxbull_ox 5,056 Posts
Extra clothes is a must, I can't remember ever being camping and not waking up at least one morning (or worse, in the middle of the night) drenched from rain leaking inside the tent.

    Oh yeah, and

My standards of comfort may just be too high for me to ever go camping again...

  • Don't even pussyfoot around with bug dope that has no deet in it, otherwise you're just buttering yourself up.

i might be the only one on this, but i think camping when its raining out is lots of fun, especially w/ a nice sized group of friends.
