When I first started playing drums for my high school's jazz band, my teacher told me to get two albums. First was Kind of Blue, so I could play along with the first two tracks. The second was John Coltrane's "Live at the Village Vanguard" to get my mind blown. This album remains my favorite jazz lp more than a decade down the road. also

that's just my fave Blue Note piano jazz records
impossible task to pick a fave jazz record for me
It's too hard to pick favorites in jazz, too broad, too many good things. Lots of good stuff mentioned here. Horace Silver - SFMF, plus Cape Verdean Blues, Dolphy - Out To Lunch, all the Mingus, , Duke - Money Jungle, all the Coltrane, Miles, etc. Also, Bobby Hutcherson - Stick Up!, Joe Henderson - In n Out, Archie Shepp - Fire Music, add Dolphy - Last Date (his version of Epistrophy is a total facemelter), Mal Waldron/Dolphy - The Quest, Oliver Nelson - Blues and the Abstract Truth, Ornette - Live at Golden Circle 1 and 2, Ahmad Jamal - Awakening......................
And I'm sorry, but if you're calling Simba by O. Levy one of your favorite jazz albums, you clearly don't like jazz. I like that album too, but come on... It has almost nothing to do with jazz music.
