    Volker Kriegel

deserves more shine. there are so many excellent records with Kriegel involved and I think his style is really nice.

    Celtic Folk

I'd add John Renbourn to that list too.

Tim Reynolds solo stuff (both hard and soft) shreds. And this may seem to come way out of left field, but Ani DiFranco is a really interesting guitar player.

I was suprised to see no one mention Wes Montgomery yet (unless read right past it).

    Buckethead under avante garde jazz?

When he was starting to make a name for himself in the early 1990s, he played in Company '92 (with Derek bailey and John Zorn), released some pretty "out" recordings on *ahem* Bill Laswell and John Zorn's label, on his own, as well as with the band Praxis. Those were considered quite "avant garde"-ish rock for its day.

Of course...joining GNR is another story altogether.

I think Pete Cosey+Reggie Lucas deserve to be included in LaserWolf's list as well.

he has yet to out do transmutation mutadis with laswell

Look out for Jimmy Colvard...I don't know what other sessions he did, but on Dave Dudley's "Six Days On The Road" my man is playing this bass string hookline that just won't quit...

(And if you really wanna go huntin', look for that single he did on Rosie, which is "Six Days" done instrumentally.)

    Curtis Mayfield
    Robert Fripp
    Wes Montgomery
    Jimi Hendrix
    Leo Nocentelli
