What kid can't relate to "Principal's Office"? And it's actually worth revisiting these days just to appreciate the Dust Brothers production work.

You know, if you're into that sort of thing.

No, I hear you. I was simply remembering the first few cassettes I bought as a kid. But you must admit, there's a grade school element to that album. Parent Just Don't Understand? That shit resonates with a 10-year-old.

i was really into weird al.
    double and
    ----------

Enigma... "Ca di moi, qu'est-ce que tu cherche?" and then the lady breathing real hard like she was having sex...or was working out real hard...but as a hard-up thirteen year old (or thereabouts) you know which one I was thinking...damn, I think I need to find that tape.

my first record I bought with my own money:

my first records (KISS ALIVE II and a few k-tel comps were given to me)

The two big songs on the radio 'round these parts at this time were "Destroyer" form LP pictured above and Joan Jett "I Love Rock N Roll"...I only had enough money for one record, so I had to pick. I dont remember why I picked the Kinks, but I stand by my choice.

This was when I was really young though. A few years after that I got into Thelonius Monster believe it or not, because I saw the singer acting completely drunk on stage during some festival that was on tv (in a way that would put Amy Winehouse to shame), which I thought was really cool for some reason.

I think I suppressed the rest.

Sadly, i'm going to play a gig for my parents friends this summer. The name of their little party is a "Buffet with Buffett". The money is good though.

  • Dude, i used to hate on jimmy buffett for sport; then, i saw the ed bradley 60 minutes memorial special, and saw they were like BEST friends.

dude is ok by me at this point.

When I was 12, I was bumpin' the California Rasins, Paul Simon, The Fat Boys & Poison.

"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" was my jam.

  • I started off kind of alright. I couldn't find any pictures of the various Suzuki Cello books I had to listen to. I think I had tapes 1-5 before the "dark phase" began in 8th grade.

Took a turn for the worse right about here.

I never bought many albums because the ones I wanted ("Use Your Illusion" most of all) were not allowed in the house.

I'll throw on STP or Green Day out of nostalgia if I'm playing cards with my friends.

I do remember liking Green Jelly's "Three Little Pigs" in 5th or 6th grade. That's pretty embarrassing.

Not nearly as regrettable as the punk phase. So much time lost...

Faux_Rillz called and asked me to post this one (said his internets is broken):

And could the moderators put this towards his post count and deduct one from mine? Thanks.

    1. before middle school, i was 100% influenced by my older siblings (i was the youngest):

    2. middle school: influences by peers = "cooler" music such as:

    3. 8th grade, the dam bursts:

    4. 10th grade, after a close buddy returned from a year in the much much cooler S.F., soaking up the '84 skate/music scene... he returned with an Alva skateboard, a mountain bike and stuff like this:

later (college): excursions into risky territory like New Order etc, even while continuing punk purchases like Misfits etc, and picking up dee-lite, pauls boutique, etc... pretty schizo overall.

    oh god

I know popular opinion is that this record has aged REALLY poorly, but it's still a solid favorite of mine. I couldn't say the same for any other of their records though.

And that Live one was too much for me, even at the time...
