Daft Punk - Homework appreciation

After the other Daft Punk thread, I just listened to Homework for the first time in a long time and daaaamnn... I forgot how much I liked this album. If you ever liked this album, I suggest you give it a listen again. I've never been a real fan of house music, especially really repetitive stuff... but something about this album makes me want to just hear thumping kick drums and hi hats for days.Their drums knock hard, and their buildups are simple but just draw you in. Simple filtering and drop outs, but it just comes across so well.Feel free to add your own thoughts about it...

Big co-sign... This was the album that got me back into House Music in the late 90's. "All Around The World" and "Da Funk" are classic jams.

I think "Discovery," is their masterpiece, though. So much production wizardry in that album after the simple but elegant debut. "Human After All" took that simplicity to comical extremes and was a HUGE letdown IMO, except for "Robot Rock" (That Breakwater loop fucking kills).

It's not as melodic as their later stuff, but it somehow manages to still be really catchy. The rhythmic noisiness of it really appeals to me. Those two dudes just have a knack for writing songs that make you want to dance.

  • Many crazy nights messed up listening to this album I will take it with me in the car tonight and try to have some flashbacks

I remember being up really late one night in 1997 and seeing the video for "Around the World" for the first time. That track opened up a whole new world to me in terms of electronic music. Classic.

I'm actually quite curious about what you think. I feel like part of my love for this album is rooted in nostalgia. I'm confident, but not certain about whether or not it will hold up to fresh ears. Though I do think that since you're a producer yourself, you'll appreciate the 'sound' of the album. It's very noisy and, like I mentioned earlier, not very melodic - but somehow it just hits the right way.

Just out of curiosity, which tracks don't you like?

Teachers is an obvious one - but it's obviously not meant to be serious.
I don't like High Fidelity much.
    Or Ino Silver Club.
    And I especially hate Alive.

  • I really liked this album untill I fell asleep on mushrooms one time (drifted off before they hit me) So it was more like woke up, on mushrooms, and Homework scared the fuck out of me. I got out of my creepy detroit apartment for some fresh air on the even creepier streets of detroit. Ill add this was the only bad experience I've had with them (mushrooms or daft punk) and no, Im not a raver.
