I was reluctant to post it based on that late night feel but the lyrics make it equally appropriate to rock as you rise and shine, y'know? Almost feel like I should be bustin out the Champs' & OJ... and gliding across my tiled kitchen floor in nothin but wool sox.... Risky Business styles...

yo comprendo...if i could, i'd edit to say, 'does well in the dark, too.' that song can pretty much go anywhere- subject matter/lyrics for the day- tone and feel for the night.

I can easily agree with this as well. My pops told me that upon entering the world they played "isnt she lovely" , gave me a yellow rose and held me up to the sun in a hippie prayer ceremony.

    Also I would add:

    Dr. Buzzards : Sunshower

    Piero Umiliani : GoodMorning Sun

Anything by the Alkaholiks or Pharcyde as it reminds me of driving to the beach.

Daylight is the enemy of the true artist. Real music comes from stinky people in basements with no windows. The rest is just gloss.

its cold here. why are we talking about this.

Well, now that summer is actually HERE, I'd just as soon say the obvious: surf music, mainly instrumental stuff like Dick Dale, Dave Myers, Astronauts, Pyramids, Duals, Lively Ones, etc..

PLUS: bluegrass and acoustic blues are great for lazy summer afternoons.

AND: saw Tony Joe White live last weekend...seeing him on the last day of June in a sweaty room so packed that you could smell body odors, his swamp music makes a lot more sense. Last time he was in town, it was 20 below zero in December, so the contrast is amazing...

I should have added: the blues.

Because of the Chicago Blues Festival always happening at the top of the summer, this kind of music always sounds good in May, when I'm anticipating summer arriving. Earlier this month, I was riding with my friend John when he had this playing in the car:

...and it sounded very correct for the moment. Even though it was nighttime and there was no sun shining, it still had a summer FEEL.

After July, that's when surf/bluegrass/acoustic blues/Tony Joe White/War takes over for the remainder of the summer, as far as songs sounding good in the warm.
