final fantasy and metroid were great, but both series really really hit their stride in the snes ers.
Agreed. That being said, Metroid without any in-game maps = . Whoever said before that kids today don't know a thing about incredibly difficult games - I agree. Nor will they ever know the joy of entering passwords such as:
5. Circus Charlie[/b] - i don't know if it ever came out in the states but my boy from india put me up on this shit. you have to do things like jump through flaming hoops and not fall on tigers.
i had this 64 games in 1 cartrdige from japan back in the day and it had this on it. such a good game
Agreed. That being said, Metroid without any in-game maps = .
I agree. I love Super Metroid as much as I love my mother, but it's true that some of the feeling of hopelessness/dread that was present in the first one (and the heavily underrated game boy metroid 2) goes out the window when the maps come into play. i remember being scared shitless of those games when i was little.

i can't find anything online there was another 64 in 1 type game called, i think, antartica, where you played a penguin who had to make it to the north pole. and he wore a magic beanie cap and had to fly over seals that popped out of the ice. it was in faux 3d.
really any video game with a penguin in it is a guaranteed classic. i have this one master system joint that is crazy where you're a penguin that has to catch eggs.
nothing is really fucking with river city ransom (or antarctic adventure) but
1. R.C.R. 2. startropics 3. dragon warrior 4 (dude the casino in this is better than casino kid 1 and 2 combined) 4. solar jetman (INERTIA....) 5. cobra triangle
Thank you sir for awakening me from my drunken lurking slumber...
Kid Niki is such a facking dope game. Horrible box and cart art... however, super cool game. I remember finally tracking down the game in the arcade... it is 100 x harder there.
Kid Niki was also one of the few third party titles released after the launch of the NES in Canada. I recall a few other titles like 1942, Ghosts n' Goblins, etc (those are Capcom) on the shelves at CompuCentre (lol). Kid Niki, and perhaps a few other Data East titles were up there too... hmm... i recall some Taxan titles too. This is when the NES hit stride and was blowing the doors the fack off my world. 1986/1987 if I recall?
I bought Kid Niki from all those titles, based solely on the arcade pics on the back of the box.. that was a cheap trick used in the early NES days.. show arcade pics on the back, real graphics = shittier..... still , Kid Niki was a pretty good port.
I raise you a kid niki with another great Data East title..... Break Thru!
What other game let you jump a car this crazy!
Again, much harder in the arcade. Thanks again soulstrut for a great site.
co-sign on a lot of this thread. eventhough Super Mario 2 was co-opted, I gotta vote 2>3 because 2 is so friggin KUHRAZAY! Super Dodgeball was dope too...good call! Skate or Die TETRIS!! Ninja Gaiden
here's some slept-on's 1. TECMO BOWL & Tecmo Super Bowl[/b] WTF?!!!! maybe i missed someone mentioning this, but damn!
1. Lee Travinos [sic] Fighting Golf (I was always Travino, my brother was always Pretty Amy, and the neighbor was usually Fuji) 2. Super Tecmo Bowl (the best football game of all time, bar none. I once told a guy his whole relationship was a game because he turned it off near the end of a 24-24 tie between the Packers (Sterling Sharpe was ON FIRE - he would catch anything) and the Raiders (could anyone stop Bo Jackson?). 3. Goal! (we played this until our fingers went numb) 4. Major League Baseball (what do you know about throwing a guy out at first from right field? Or getting the 5-2-3 out at first?) 5. Super Dodge Ball (do not, I repeat, DO NOT fuck with Iceland. Helgi will merk you.)
Marble Madness
Oh shit! This game drove me insane.
My brother and I used to rent this game from the video store and we got really good at it. So good that we tried to make it hard again by laying on our backs facing away from the TV and watching the monitor upside down. If it made you insane in normal mode, try playing it upside down. It will remap your brain.
Give me a controller with only two buttons and I'm good.
just a few faves. of course river city ransom. If you have an emulator you can play the downtown nekketsu games translated in english. Theyre like rcr but in fuedal japan
Just picked up ninja kids at the flea but havent played it yet. I got about 200 games so far.
HOLY SHIT! Dude this is the first time I've even heard anyone mention this. Wow. Crazy.
Yeah, I never knew that either but I recognize the character for some reason. Did they incorporate the OG character into the Mario version?
I remember when Mario 3 came out and it sold out everywhere. My grade school had an annual festival with games and stuff at the end of the year with a raffle. The raffle was for a Mario 3 and I must have spent $150 trying to get it. The day of the raffle I'm front row center and they pull my name out of the hat. I clearly see it and then it slipped out of her hand back into the hat. She ended up pulling someone elses name. I was fucking pissed!
