In honor of my favorite movie site(Karagarga)being back online. Gimme some of your Indie/New film reccomendations. I just recently saw: From the poster to the title I was expecting a Terd. Ended up being a fascinating look into the pharmaceutical industry and the people of Kenya. Directed by Fernando Meirelles of City of god. Definitely Reccomended.I can't wait for: Huge fan of the video game. The trailer is incredible. Akira yamaoka is definitely a good look. Also checking out for: Ultraviolet. Milla Jovovich shoot em up. Written and directed by Kurt Wimmer of Equilibrium. What else should I be looking out for?- spidey

It sucked
Good Night & Good luck made me feel cheap tawdry and bored
Syrianna is good
Kinsey is on my Cinemax on demand and I like that film too
Screech did a science fiction movie with Thora Birch that he told me was good but I don't beleive him
Fearless with Jet Li should be good. Its out in asia right now.
Well, it's really released tomorrow. But I guess it is tomorrow there now so...
But the trailer looks good. I've been wanting to see it too.
Also... For great news in loads of classic HK DVD film releases:

He's his best when he's on that wong fei hung tip. The present release is missing some 40 minutes of fights & they cut out all of Michelle Yeoh's scenes. I still think this will kick ass, tho.
I mean, Jackie Chan beats up Peter Fonda playing a biker and Roger Moore plays a Jewish 007. What more do you need.
This is also
Please to explain Grandmaster G.

What is this called? SPL? Do you know if it's available on Netflix? I can't find it under the name Netflix.
during lunch today he was talking a mile a minute and at some point he went into films he did with people that went on to be big in the industry. I forget the name of the film but he described it as semi-science fiction film dealing with time being the new currency....anyways He said Thora was in it when she was 8 and the main star was Neil Patrick Harris. It was made by a small company that has since went under (he thinks)
oh and he told me that Thora's mom was a porn star and her most known role was as the nurse in Deep Throat
so are you going to post pics of this lunch or what?
This is pretty entry level into the bad movie genre. The allusions are fun, though.
Got this for two cents on Amazon.
As well as
Yes -- that's a Leonard Maltin interview you see at the bottom of the VHS. Why he's even watching this movie...
Peace

Only Region 3 DVD is out for the time being, so I would not be surprised if Netflix does not have it yet. So if you happen to have a region-free DVD player, I reckon you can cop a copy of Region 3 in Chinatown easy.
When is this actually coming out? I'm dying to see it! I celebrate Linklater's and PKD's whole catalogue.
Innocence by Lucile Hadzihalilovic was pretty awesome.
Just watched this again, totally great:
As is this "classic" flick:
People don't really seem to mention Being there but I thought it was dope.
you may think it's soft but this film is real.
I was in the audience for this & he was incredible. Got to meet him briefly too. Not sure if it's on this dvd but after the readings he did a question & answers session in a room upstairs which was amazing.
just saw this one
very dope documentary about gangs in NY from 1979
I'm looking forward to the new Jan Svankmajer, "Lunacy". In my opinion Svankmajer is one of the great originals in cinema. I think his animation is among the best and his features are excellent too. His newest is based on De Sade and Poe and it is supposed to be close to straight horror. Sounds interesting.
Others, that I've seen of late that don't suck are:
Torremolinos '73 - which is a quirky Spanish/Danish joint about a couple who get sucked into making lo-fi 70's porn flicks
Wolf Creek - Pretty Hardcore Aussie pic in the vein of the OG Texas Chainsaw Massacre
We don't live here any more - real 'mature' fayre, s'ok I s'pose
Palindromes - More interesting than entertaining, but me likey Solondz so that's ok with me
Downfall - really atmospheric look at Hitler's last few days.
Brown Bunny - Actually, this did suck, but worth a mention for shock value as Sevigny actually shines Gallo for real - something I really wasn't expecting as I somehow missed the controversy first time around.
Oh, and I also saw Brokeback Mountain at the Cinema last night, and that really did not suck at all.
The early versions of SPL were PAL. The region free NTSC versions came out a week or two back. But yeah.. I don't think its on Netflix yet. But maybe, since HKflix did have it and it's now backordered.

But yeah.. Pick it up on the cheap in Chinatown
I have the 2 DVD set - its worth it. Be careful buying boots - some are based on the mainland version & have a different ending.
SPL's fucking garbage IMO...lol
Hong Kong's a flop this year.
Election Sucked. SPL sucked. The Promise sucked. What else...Drink Drank Drunk....KungFu Majong...Everlasting Regret...Chinese Tall Story...Dragon Blade...Dragon Squad...House of Fury...Tokyo Raiders...Set to Kill...Initial D...GARBAGE
Well, I guess Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles was ok
Don't get me wrong, SPL sells great. I moved maybe 300 copies of SPL, but I honestly thought it was a B movie...lol
I'll see what Fearless is saying
The one HK thing I've enjoyed to some extent is Split Second, but I'm not sure you can buy it anywhere. It's a series that's basically a HK version of "24". It's 30 episodes, and it takes place over 30 days. Each episode obviously accounts for 1 day. I haven't seen it for sale anywhere, other than the OST on YesAsia.
I thought SPL was alright. Ur right tho, election and the promise sucked large.
MoSS, is there anything comin out in the next while to be looking out for?
this list is a good list.
