  • Lately I??ve been loving Ray Charles?? cover of "Eleanor Rigby" off his King Of Soul LP. Pretty non-standard Charles delivery!

Jumbo??s cover of "Hey Jude" ranks pretty high with me.

Rare Earth??s cover of "Eleanor Rigby" is a classic.

    Uhmmmm....

I??ll be back with more later..

R.D. Burman covered Michelle for a Bollywood tune. That'd be fun to give her!
    More later.

I like Kenny Rankins Penny Lane.

  • Fiona Apple does a version of "Across the Universe"

So does Rufus Wainwright but it's nauseating...

    Here's a nice cover - John Holt[/b] "I Will"

  • That Moody-Gentle Rain has Across the Universe. I would add the Assembled Multitude and George Benson.

Benson's cover of I Want You (She's So Heavy) would be my pick off this:

the "I Am Sam" soundtrack is Beatles covers by contemporary acts i guess you can say...didnt feel it much at all, aside from the amazing ben harper version of "strawberry fields". i also love the fiona apple version of across the universe mentioned earlier. when it comes to beatles covers, i dig the reggae versions. there's a great reggae comp out there.

  • Yeah me too. Assembled Multitude has that song and a version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Theres an LP by the Collins Shepley Galaxy with Herbie Hancock on keys. Has a really good jazz take of Hey Jude with a break.

    moments- rocky raccoon.

    you've got that one, right?

  • Sisters Love - 'Blackbird'

Co-sign the Moments' version of 'Rocky Raccoon.'

Zumpano (pre-New Pornographers) do an okay 'Long and Winding Road' but this might be the wrong board for that kind of talk.

The NME did this thing Sgt Pepper Knew My Father where British indie bands that were big in 1986 redid the whole album. Notable versions: Wedding Present and Amelia Fletcher doing 'Getting Better,' the Fall doing 'A Day in the Life' and Sonic Youth doing 'Within You, Without you.'

Wes Montgomery's 'Day in the Life' is nice, but not nearly psychotic enough.

This might not count, but there's that ill Blvd Mosse song where they sample Wings.

Marcia Griffiths' 'Don't Let Me Down' = dope
Ditto Jackie Robinson's 'In My Life.'

Didn't Junior Mance or Junior Parker do a nice 'Taxman?'

I have never heard a decent cover of 'Strawberry Fields Forever.' I'm not sure this is possible.

...probably because the song wasn't shit to begin with, IMO

  • 5 Stairsteps and Cubie 'Dear Prudence' bangin...

Donny Hathaway 'Jealous Guy' off the Live LP...lennon cover but definitely deep.

    $??
