Starting with ODubs' list and adjusting it for my mind garden...

    tribe called quest[/b]
    1. low end theory
    2. midnight marauders
    3. people's instinctive travels...
    4. love movement
    5. beats, rhymes and life

I never could get into Beats Rhymes and Life, I like a few tracks on there ( I think 3 at most) and the rest is eh... I am probably one of the few that liked love movement, and it was mainly because of the production.

    gangstarr[/b]
    1. daily operation
    2. step in the arena
    3. hard to earn
    4. no more mr. nice guy
    5. the ownerz
    6. moment of truth

Daily operation is straight dope to me. I had it on blast when it came out for months... Time and place has a lot to do with my ordering for all these lists, and that album had a bigger impact on me than the other ones, hence its number 1 placement.

    masta ace[/b]
    1. slaughtahouse
    2. sittin on chrome
    3. take a look around
    4. long hot summer
    5. disposable arts

Slaughtahouse is just a classic, plain and simple. Sittin On Chrome was a solid summer rotation in the whip. The heavy samples on that album fit perfectly with the nice hot humid Ohio summers

    public enemy[/b]
    1. it takes a nation of millions
    2. yo! bum rush the show
    3. fear of a black planet
    4. apocalypse 91
    5. greatest misses
    6. everything else...

This is the hardest group for me to categorize. Their first 3 albums were put together so well (even the cruder feeling, but more in your face Yo!) that I kind of group them all together as their best work. I like Yo! because they still had a bit of street in them and the revolutionary aspect wasn't really center stage. ITANMTHB was straight up revolutionary mindset, and Fearof a Black planet was the pinnacle of their strength through production and rhymes. By the time Apaocolypse came out the industry was changing and the album IMO just didn't have the same impact as their first three, although I like it more now than I remember liking it when it first dropped... Greatest Misses was eh, and everything after that was bought out of supporting the cause so to speak.

ice cube + dr. dre + nwa + related fam (1988-1993, no EPs, no 'Pac)[/b]
    1. straight outta compton
    1. death certificate
    3. the chronic
    4. doggystyle
    4. no one can do it better
    5. amerikkka's most wanted
    7. niggaz4life
    8. livin like hustlers
    9. the predator
    10. 100 Miles and Running

Death Certificate to me is probably one of the best albums created IMO. The fact that its a storyline from start to finish that actually made sense... And the production on the album combined with Cube's writing (his pinnacle IMO), was untouched by anything after and anything before (outside of Straight Outta Compton).

    2Pac

    1. Strictly For My N.I.G.G.A.Z.
    2. Me Against The World
    3. All Eyes On Me
    4. Makeveli

Strictly was a dope album and really introduced me to 2Pac as a rapper outside of his cameos with Digital Underground. Me Against the World just had solid production throughout and it was Pre-Thuglife every other sentence tupac so I could actually listen to his lyrics... After that his work tends to blend together.

Finally somebody else mentions Da Gangsta. IMO I like it better than most of the D.I.T.C stuff because production on it is also the way he rhymes sounds tough. But still very hard to put DITC in order.

    10. I would probably put some of those Ghostface mixtapes with unreleased cuts at least at #7 on this list, maybe higher... but since they aren't official albums I'll just give them a mention here at #10.

    D.I.T.C.
    1. Diamond- Stunts Blunts
    2. Showbiz & A.G.- Runaway Slave
after that I'm not sure, but DEFINITELY those are 1 and 2.

People on here really love that De La "Buhloone" album, don't they? So interesting. Maybe I'm not as crazy about it because I first heard it from one of those Tommy Boy advance cassettes that they gave to journalists... you know, the ones with the barnyard noises all over it. I need to listen to it again sans the moos and oinks... doubt that I'd change my rankings, but I still need to listen again anyway.
